Halfway down the hallway I could hear Kaylee screaming my name. She needed me tonight. I needed her. I was filled with regret. I ran as fast as I could back to her door. I could feel tears starting to run down my face. I banged on the door. "Kaylee," I whispered trying to keep myself together. The door open. I put both of my hands on Kaylee's face. "Don't ever. I repeat ever. Let me leave you like that again. Please don't," I pleaded.
"Wes come in. I think your coffee is ready. If you still want it," Kaylee gestured over to her kitchen.
I wiped the tears from my eyes trying to look calm, "Yes that'd be nice." She let me in her house and poured me a cup of coffee, she added creamer to it. Just the right amount too. "Thanks," I said as she handed me the mug. I sat down with Kaylee on the loveseat. "You know, I thought we were going to lose our friendship because of my stupid decision," I sighed.
"You do realize, you don't have a chance losing what we have," she said smiling. She leaned closer to me, almost to the stage of cuddling. "Want to watch a movie?" she asked me.
I took a sip of my coffee before responding, "Sure, why not." She turned on her TV and her brother's PS3. She only used it for one thing: Netflix. "Hey wait, go back to that movie," I told her as she was flipping through movies.
"This one?" she questioned with the selector over The Conjuring.
"Ya. Don't worry, if you get scared. I'm right here," I told her. She smiled and got a blanket from her bedroom and selected The Conjuring. She sat down and threw the blanket over the two of us and she started moving closer to me.
By halfway through the movie she was cuddling against me closing her eyes every now and then when something scary was going to happen. Her hand held in mine. I felt like protecting her from some imaginary thing on Netflix, that was about to eat her. I chuckled out loud from the thought. She looked at me and smiled and we continued to watch the movie again. I finished my coffee and set it on the end table.
By the end of the movie she was laying on my chest. She was asleep. I wrapped my arms around her. I imagined our nights in Paris; watching movies all night, drinking coffee and tea, falling asleep together. I was really excited for our trip.
I woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon. "Kaylee, did we fall asleep?" I asked.
"Ya Wes," her sweet morning voice spoke,"I went and got your duffel bag you always carry in your car for nights like this. It was true I always had a spare set of clothes with me and morning necessities.
"Do you mind if I shower?" I asked Kaylee.
I already knew the answer. "Make yourself at home," she told me, "Breakfast will be done in like ten minutes. So speed shower," she burst out laughing.
"Okay," I laughed with her.
I grabbed my duffel bag and headed to her small bathroom. I opened the door to her small shower and stepped in.
I showered under five minutes, dressed, and styled my hair. I put my Old Spice on. Now all I needed was some coffee. Kaylee knew ahead and ordered Starbucks. "Food will be a bit," she told me. I took a sip of my coffee feeling refreshed.
"This is perfect, good ordering," I praised her. She smiled. She put my food on my plate and handed it to me. "This is wonderful," I smiled at her.
I stopped at my house before we went to work. I grabbed my copy of The Fault in Our Stars. Kaylee had hers too. Next step - getting these bad babies signed. I didn't take the normal way to work. Mainly, because we weren't going to work. We were cruising. I got onto a familiar road about a half hour away. Kaylee was falling asleep. I turned the car around and we went back to town.
After about ten minutes, I pulled my Prius up to Barnes and Noble.
