I felt bad for letting her pay for her trip. I felt like a jerk. I'm the one saying we're going to Paris and then she has to figure something out so she can afford to go. We're both living in an apartment with low income, and we both do little things such as carpooling, unplugging all our appliances in the house to save on the electrical bill. I was just fortunate to have three quarters of the cost to go to Paris. With me having a higher position at work, she most likely doesn't have as much money saved as I do. But I couldn't stay angry with myself for long, because she filled me with joy with our conversation.
"So what are you ordering?" I asked her as I saw our waitress start approaching us with menus.
She looked at me and smiled, "The usual." I ordered for the both of us. My usual; a cheeseburger with pickles. And Kaylee's; her usual was whatever I ordered. I took a sip of my cappuccino and looked her in the eye with a smile on my face. "I love your smile," she said as she reached her hand out for mine.
"I love yours too," I stared deep into her eyes. Those were wonderful too.
"Wes, what do you say we go see that new movie Love Without Limits? It'd be fun," she asked me.
"It'd be a pleasure," I held her hands.
"So the 17th is in four days. That should be enough time to get caught up at work." Kaylee noted.
"The only thing I have coming up is the John Green signing. But that's not for work. I just am dieing for my The Fault In Our Stars copy to be signed. And you know the pictures with Mr. Green himself." I said.
"Oh ya, that's tomorrow isn't it? At Barnes and Noble?" she questioned. We were both die-hard John Green fans.
"Yes, tomorrow at Barnes and Noble," I assured her.
She looked disappointed, "I wish Dan stopped sending in his pictures. I'm stacked for tomorrow."
"I'd say I'd take your copy to get signed, but no, you're going to meet John Green one way or another. Despite work," I promised.
"Really? How's that possible?" she questioned.
"You'll see," I smiled. Our food arrived and our waitress placed our identical plates of food in front of us. "Thanks ma'am," I said regarding the waitress.
"I think she mixed up our plates," I joked.
Kaylee laughed the most adorable laugh, "Ya this one has one extra pickle." We both broke into laughter. She moved her hair out of her face. Halfway through our burgers she looked at me, "Got a little something." She pointed to the left side of her lip. I took my napkin and wiped my face.
"Thanks," I said smiling. We finished up our dinner and I payed the bill and left a six dollar tip. I had a nice experience here. Maybe not because of the waitress, but it was spending time with Kaylee that mattered.
"So pick me up 6ish?" she asked me.
"Sure," I said putting her, now dry, coat on her. I pulled up to Kaylee's house to drop her off. I hugged her, "See ya later."
"See ya," she smiled. The car ride to my apartment made me anxious. As soon as I got to my apartment I jumped into the shower. I put on an American Eagle turquoise and white plaid flannel shirt, and my nicest jeans. Just to add to my scent I added Eternity by Calvin Klein cologne. I only used it on special days.
At quarter to six I drove to Kaylee's apartment. The rain calmed down from the way it was earlier today. I knocked on Kaylee's door. "Hey Wes, It'll be a minute. Just finishing up," she called through the buzzer system. She unlocked the door and I stepped in her apartment and sat down on her loveseat. I took my camera out and started looking through the pictures from our trip to Venice. My favorite picture of the two of us; we were on a gondola going down the main canals of Venice. The sunset behind us was an amazing view. I have that picture framed in my apartment.
While waiting for Kaylee I decided to look around her apartment. I found the most unique things in her apartment to photography. Her apartment was simply clean and pleasing to the eye. Just like her appearance when I caught her out of the corner of my eye walking into her bedroom. I waited until she was ready to leave before saying anything.
"You look beautiful," I told her. Those were the only words that came to my mind. I was filled with awe.
