I woke up an hour later and lifted my head off Wes’ chest. Looking up I noticed he was asleep. I looked over out the window, that Wes must have uncovered while I was asleep; bad idea. Right away I got a sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach. Leaning over I put my elbows on my knees and held my head in my hands. Wanting so much to wake Wes up I knew I should let him sleep.

“Are you alright miss? Do you need anything?” the flight attendant asked me, a look of worry spreading over her face.

“Um actually I could use some tea and maybe a muffin,” I told her.

“Okay, I’ll be right back,” she said turning on her heel and walking away. I leaned over Wes and pulled the window cover back over it.

“Here you are.” the flight attendant said, handing me a mug of tea and a blueberry muffin.

“Thank you,” I forced a smile. Taking a sip of the tea I pulled my book out of my carry on, trying to read. There was no way I could. I kept thinking about how high up we were. Just nine and a half hours to go and we will be there.

After reading for awhile and eating two muffins, Wes finally woke up.

“Hey, hows it going?” he asked tiredness coloring his voice.

“I’m fine,” I muttered not looking at him. If I did I knew I would break down. Taking part of my third muffin Wes took my hand.

“Kaylee? Can you look at me?” he asked in a soft voice. I shook my head no and tried to keep reading.

“Kaylee, come on, look at me.” he pleaded. Slowly turning my head, Wes’ face looked extremely worried.

“You’re really pale, Kaylee,” he said putting his hand on my face

“That’s not helping,” I replied.

“I know, I’m sorry,” he said. “Do you wanna watch a movie? Maybe that will take your mind off things for awhile.” he suggested. Nodding my head, I put my book away. Wes picked the movie The Life of Pi, and turned on the little TV in front of him. Pulling me closer to him, he put his arm around my shoulders. I laid my head on his shoulder and fell asleep again after watching the movie for about ten minutes.

Four hours later we both woke up. Stretching my neck and back, I got up to go to the bathroom. After returning to my seat, Wes and I talked more about Paris, keeping my thoughts away from heights. After what seemed like twelve hours, the flight attendant finally announced that we would be landing in forty-five minutes or so.

Looking over at Wes I smiled and squeezed his hand. Then we saw buildings popping up and both of us were looking out the window, our heads together. I forgot about my fear of heights for that moment and just took everything in. As we started to descend I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. Wes grabbed my hand and I opened my eyes giving him a smile.

Finally we came to a stop and the excitement started rushing into me like a dam had broken.

We had arrived to Paris.
