Two weeks had passed since that day in the hospital and Sofia hadn't seen the soldier who miraculously lived. Today however, will be the first time she will see him. The soldier's name was on her list of patients to see. Everybody has been talking about him continuously. He was Private first class Adam Mills who was very well known around the military base.
Sofia sat down with her friends during their lunch break, but as soon as she was putting her fork into her mouth to eat her salad, Bea banged down her lunch tray and looked dreamily at her friend. Sofia arched her eyebrow and looked at her "what?" she asked.
"Oh nothing it's just that I saw Adam Mills today and fell in love with him" Bea stated bluntly with a smirk across her face. Bea was just many of the other nurses who have been head over heels about this guy. Bea has been nagging Sofia to go see him since she helped save his life, but she just never had the time. Sofia groaned and sat back on her chair.
But Bea kept smirking at her. "What now?" Sofia asked irriated.
"Oh nothing its just that he asked me about you today" Sofia froze in her seat, he remembered her? Faith on the other hand who was sitting with them squealed,"Oh Sofia I can feel like something blossoming between you two."
Sofia scoffed yeah right she thought. As Bea, Faith and the rest of the girls began talking Sofia was lost in her thoughts. Surely he didnt remember her. He was passed out on the stretcher.
As their lunch break ended all the girls bid her goodbye winking while squealing. Sofia rolled her eyes and walked off to get her clipboard.
As she was walking towards the room of the soldier her nerves were getting to her. She reached in front of the door and took a deep breathe before bringing her hand to knock on the door. He responed and slowly she walked in pretending to look at her clipboard.
But when Sofia reached the edge of his bed she looked up into his blue eyes. Their eyes locked for a few seconds before she cleared her throat and looked away.
"Good afternoon Private Mills my name is So-"
"Sofia." She looked up from her clipboard and looked at him again. He nervously chuckled, "I remember hearing your name and seeing you before I passed out."
Sofia nodded her head and smiled at him. Her heart beat continued to increase under his gaze.
"Well I'm glad you're okay and it looks like you are doing fine. Is there anything I can help you with or tell the doctor about?" she asked after finally finding her voice to speak.
He shook his head no as he observed her. "Okay well I will come back later to check up on you" Sofia smiled and quickly turned around to leave his room.
"I heard you say the prayer for me" Adam said softly. Sofia stopped in her tracks. She looked at him again.
"thank you for your prayer I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome" Sofia said and as she turned to leave she felt his eyes piercing through her back.
**************************
A few days passed since Adam saw Sofia. He was getting released from the hospital today and will be getting physical therapy the next couple of weeks to help him get back on his feet. Adam was putting his uniform back on when his friend Sam Davis walked in.
"How's it going brother?" Sam asked smiling while pulling Adam into a hug.
"You know a little sore, but I'm doing better. How's all the boys doing?" Adam picked up his bag and carefully sat down on the wheel chair. Sam was going to take him back to his bunk.
"Their good everyone has been waiting for you to get back" Sam pushed the wheel chair and as they were conversing on their way out Adam caught a glimpse of Sofia who laughed at something Bea had said and playfully hit her on the arm.
She intrigued him not because she was beautiful, but he saw the saddness in her eyes. He wanted to know more about her. He shaked his head as he realized he called her beautiful. Adam looked at Sofia again and now as he observed her he came to the conclusion that she indeed was a beautiful woman.
Sam looked at up to see what his friend was staring at and smirked. "You know maybe you could ask her to the military ball that's in two weeks."
Adam finally looked away and he thought about what Sam had said. He could ask her, but what if she doesn't come? He didn't see her at last year's event, even though he had seen Bea there.
Adam looked at Sofia one more time before leaving the build, but soon as he glanced up one last time his blue eyes locked with her brown one's. He polietly smiled at her as she gave him small wave before going into another patient's room.
For moment Adam starred at where she was standing and he finally decided that he has to find out more about her. As Sam pushed him through the hospital doors Adam's thoughts slowly drifted back towards her.
