Adam and Sofia were heading home today. The two sat in the plane reminiscing about everything that had happened the last couple of weeks. Sofia sat thinking about seeing Bea's mom and Laila after they land. Her heart was already aching for what she will have to face. As the seat belt sign came up to show that they were about to land Sofia closed her eyes and began to steady her breathing. Adam looked over at Sofia, his feelings for her are becoming stronger by day. But now was not the right time he thought as he deeply sighed.
The plane came to a steady landing and soon they were out in baggage claim getting their luggage's. Sofia had decided to go see Bea's mom, Ellen, right away. As Adam put their bags onto the cart the two walked out and got into a taxi. Sofia told the taxi driver the address to Ellen's home and slumped down in the seat. She was not ready to face Ellen or Laila yet.
Adam gently took hold of Sofia's hand. "Hey its going to be fine, I'll be there with you" he said giving her a small smile. Sofia nodded her head and choked back the tears that threaten to fall so she quickly looked out the window. The rest of the ride to Ellen's house was quiet. As the taxi came to a halt in front of the house Sofia took a deep breathe before she knocked on the door.
In a few seconds Ellen had opened the door and chocked back tears. "Oh Sofia" Ellen cried as she embraced her in a hug. Sofia dropped her bags and hugged Ellen back. "I'm so glad you're here, Laila as been asking about you" Ellen said as she pulled Sofia out from the hug, but still holding onto her arms. Ellen had always been a loving and caring person towards Sofia. She never once had treated Sofia any differently than as her own daughter. Which made this even more difficult for Sofia to bare.
Sofia had no idea what else to say so she turned around and signaled Adam to come inside. "Ellen, this is Adam" Sofia said.
"Nice to meet you ma'am" Adam said shaking her hand. Ellen smiled and had them follow her inside to the living room. The two sat down on the sofa as Ellen went to go get coffee. Adam looked around the house observing how loving and warm Ellen's house was. There were pictures of Bea and Sofia and Laila all around the house.
Quietly descending down the stairs was Laila. She walked into the living room and quietly whispered, "aunt Sofia." Sofia quickly turned around and stood up. Adam did the same as the two observed Laila.
"Laila" Sofia whispered back and walked towards her to give her a hug. Laila clung onto Sofia like she never wanted for her to let go. It seemed as if Laila felt if she let go, Sofia would be gone forever. Sofia picked her up and sat down on the sofa as Ellen also came in and set the coffee down.
Hours passed as they all sat down and talked. Sofia shared stories of Bea and there were a few laughs here there. Ellen had also made dinner and would not let them leave until they had ate. During dinner Sofia had explained everything to Ellen. From Bea's letter to what she had found out about Zack and the journey she sent her towards. Ellen didn't seem surprised when she learned of Bea's secret. "I always knew who was Laila's father. I was there that summer when she and Zack were together. After she found out that she was pregnant I had my suspicious. Then one day I had asked her and she didn't deny it, but she swore me to secrecy for not to tell you. She didn't want you to be disappointed with her" Ellen said sighing.
When Sofia learned the new information she didn't know what to think of this. She was kind of upset at the fact that Bea would ever think that Sofia would be disappointed or ashamed of her.
But soon the emotional reunion came to end as it was time for Sofia and Adam to leave. Sofia looked at Ellen teary eyed. "I am so sorry, I really tried to save her" she said chocking back tears as Ellen hugged her. "Oh my dear, I know you did. You did the best you could Sofia and thank you for that. Don't you ever think that it's your fault. Bea wouldn't want you to think like that, she loved you very much don't you forget that" Sofia nodded her head while Ellen wiped away Sofia's tears.
"You're always welcome to come back and stay here once this is all over" Ellen told her giving her another hug. Ellen smiled and let Sofia go to Laila who was standing behind of the door.
Sofia bent down to face Laila. "Hey there Laila bug I have to go now okay? I have to do something for mommy" Sofia said gently. Laila nodded her head as tears ran down her cheeks. "Don't cry Laila, I'll be back, I promise" Sofia said wiping her tears.
"You promise aunt Sofia?" she asked as she hugged Sofia tightly.
"Yes I promise" Sofia said. As Laila pulled back Sofia looked at her. "You know your mommy loved you very much right?" Laila nodded her head. Sofia smiled and hugged her again.
Adam watched the loving relationship between Laila and Sofia when Ellen gently touched his arm. Adam looked over and smiled.
"You love her don't you?" she asked. Adam sighed and looked at Sofia again. Adam didn't have to stay anything for Ellen to find out the answer to her question. "You promise me to keep her safe okay?" she asked him. This time Adam answered "I promise."
