Evie and Sebastian were on the horse still, they arrived at a meadow where they both got off the horse and sat down on the grass.
"I come here to calm myself. It's where I like to think about what's happened in the day that has been bad and let it go." Sebastian said and Evie smiled at him.
"I wish it was easy to let things go." Evie laid down in the grass, with Sebastian laying down next to her. "I always just wish I could scream. I wish we didn't have emotions. It would be so much easier to focus on ... well Shadowhunter things like hunting demons."
"Scream." Sebastian said.
"What?" Evie looked at him and laughed.
"There's nobody here apart from me. Nobody will hear you." Sebastian said. "Scream."
Evie looked up at the sky for a second. She thought about everything she had bottled up. Everything that made her angry. Everything she regretted. And she screamed. When she stopped screaming, it turned into a laugh. Sebastian laughed with her.
"Now doesn't that feel better?" Sebastian smiled.
"Yes it does actually." Evie smiled. They both laughed for a bit, looking into each other's eyes.
"Do you ever wonder who we'd be if we weren't Shadowhunters?" Evie said. "Like would we be mundanes or would we not exist? Would we believe in the Angel? Would we believe in mundane things like God? Would we have fighting skills? Would we be mundanes that like fighting and training?"
"I think that if Shadowhunters didn't exist, we would be mundanes. But we wouldn't have any Shadowhunter characteristics. We wouldn't believe in the Angel. We wouldn't know any of it existed. We would just be mundanes." Sebastian replied.
"Yeah. I don't think I would fit in with being a mundane. It just seems so ..."
"Mundane?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah." Evie laughed. "Being a Shadowhunter is who I am. I don't know who I'd be as a mundane."
"I have something to show you." Sebastian suddenly stood up.
"Ok." Evie replied and Sebastian held a hand out to help her up. Evie took it and stood up, but she stumbled forward a bit and fell into Sebastian. He wrapped an arm around her, holding her in place, and Evie blushed a little. What happened next happened so quickly. Evie looked up at Sebastian and he looked down at her. His eyes glanced from her eyes to her lips and back again. His arm was still wrapped around her waist and Evie's hands were resting on Sebastian's broad shoulders. Sebastian crashed his lips against Evie's and she instantly kissed back. When they pulled away, they both were a little dazed. They got back on the horse and rode away.

Evie and Sebastian arrived at a manor. Sebastian got off the horse and helped Evie down. She looked at the manor properly and then realised.
"Why did you bring me here? How do you know about this place?" Evie snapped.
"Please just follow me inside. I have something to show you." Sebastian grabbed hold of Evie's hand.
They walked into the house where Evie saw loads of pictures of her with her parents on the table.
"Look Sebastian, I really don't want to be here." Evie started to tear up.
"Why? This was your home wasn't it?"
"Was." Evie replied. "Before my parents got killed.
"Then you moved in with the Lightwood family." Sebastian stated.
"Yeah. Jace is my childhood friend so he knew me." Evie replied.
"Right. I'm surprised Jace did what he did to you." Sebastian said.
"What are you talking about?" Evie questioned.
"Jace took your memories." Sebastian said.
Evie stared at him. "Ok you're crazy."
"No your parents abused you which turned you dark and Jace took you to a warlock to erase your memories to make sure you were good." Sebastian said.
      "That's not true." Evie argued.
"Think about it." Sebastian said. "Look around the manor and try to remember."
Evie looked around. She looked at the pictures and she noticed the fake smile on her young face. And when she looked closer, she saw bruises on her shoulders.

      "Evie stand straight!"
      "I am standing straight."
Evie suddenly let out a yelp and tears as her father hit her.
      "Don't answer back young lady!"
      "S - sorry."

Evie stumbled back a bit, tears falling from her eyes.
"Evie are you ok?" Sebastian asked, holding her.
Evie just looked at him and then went up the stairs to her room.
"Evie?" Sebastian followed her up the stairs.
Evie walked into her room and looked around. She looked in the mirror first.

Evie sat at her dressing table looking in the mirror, braiding her hair.
"Evie." Her dad walked into her room.
"Dad. Why do you hurt me?" Evie suddenly asked. She'd been wanting to ask it for a while. "That's not how a Shadowhunter normally acts."
Her Dad got right up in her face, making Evie shake with fear and a tear slip down her cheek.
"Do not tell me how a Shadowhunter should act. What would you know? You're only eight. A silly little eight year old brat." Her dad spat. "Don't cry. Shadowhunters don't let emotions in."

Evie gasped, turned around and walked over to her wardrobe, opening it.

"Evie dear. I got you something!" Her mum walked into the room.
"What is it?" Evie smiled.
"I got you a brand new dress!" Her mother exclaimed.
"Oh thanks mum but I don't really like wearing dresses." Evie replied.
"DO NOT BE SO UNAPPRECIATIVE! You little bitch!" Her mum slapped her across the face, making Evie fall on the bed. She held her face, where a red mark started to form. "You are no daughter of mine. And you are definitely not a Shadowhunter."

Evie stood for a while, shocked and crying. She held her arms close to herself, as if trying to hug herself to comfort herself. That was her breaking point.
"How could your childhood friend take your memories away from you when you were both only nine?" Sebastian said. "The memories that made you who you are. That helped build you to be stronger and make you want to prove your parents wrong. How could Jace Wayland do that to you?"
Evie suddenly stopped crying. She felt a darkness overflow her.
"Jace Wayland deserves to die."
