I had my back against the mossy stone wall of the side of the castle in Eichenwalde, reloading my weapon as Reinhardt covered me and Ana. The woman had determination, because she had tied her bleeding shoulder up tight and fought with me.
"They're outnumbering us. We need to get to other higher ground or better cover." Ana commented, shooting her rounds at Reinhardt who had taken some damage.
"Higher ground will only make us easier targets. These machines don't hesitate to shoot." Reinhardt pulled down his shield and swept his hammer forward, a fire projectile flying forward and destroying three Bastions that were shooting in our direction. These machines were made for killing, and their sudden activation had them wanting blood.
"I think we should retreat. If we at least get to the part of the town with the bridge, we can tear it down and give us enough cover to run back to the ship." I suggested, holding my rifle beside me tightly. I got out of cover, shooting in the Bastions general direction and lading 2 kills. They were old and rusting, but their numbers were what we needed to be worried about.
"I'll take Ana, and make a break for it. We can't take them all out." I said when I ducked back to cover, reloading once more.
"You think we can't take these Omnics out on our own child? I destroyed bots like these before you were even born." Ana said as she chuckled and stood up, following Reinhardt as he covered us while retreating. I went up to the woman and helped her walk, knowing that if she put more stress on her body that bullet wound was going to be the death of her.
"We may be good but we can't take them all on our own my dear. This shield won't last forever." Reinhardt said when he walked us back to the road that lead to the ship. The Bastions were keeping up an even pace with us, almost like if they were luring us back.
"This is all planned. Look at their face panels. They are being controlled by her." I said as I was able to realize why the Bastions were reactivated. It was her all long. She brought me here on purpose just so that she could take me out. Sadly, Ana and Reinhardt were like a bonus to them.
"Can you do something about it?" Ana asked me, watching the robots march forward.
"I think I can take her control away. If I can find any kind of weak link in her connection I can break her control over them and even get past her security system.
"Do it! The barrier is failing!" Reinhardt said as he struggled to keep the shield up, its structure starting to crack.
"Here goes nothing." I darted out of Reinhardt's cover and lead a few of the Bastions fire in my direction. This gave Ana a chance to take a few more of them out. Just then Reinhard's shield broke down, he and Ana quickly seeking cover. I ran up the wooden staircase inside a division of the castle, making my way to their back lines. Once I was close enough I closed my eyes and extended my hand out to the Bastions, my cells flying out of my arm and infiltrating one of their shooters. It turned to face me but before he could shoot I opened my eyes and saw the Bastions start to shut down.
"It worked!" I exclaimed in triumph, watching the Bastions break down into piles of old rusted metal. I walked up in between them and saw Ana and Reinhardt coming out of cover.
"I wish we would've had you in the battle 30 years ago, my friend." Reinhardt said with a small chuckle, kicking one of the bots aside.
"We should head back. If we make it to Gibraltar before the blood dries I can salvage the cloth." Ana said as she held her sniper close to her body.
"Come here my dear. You're not walking the rest of the way." Reinhardt picked up Ana with no trouble, starting to walk back to the ship. I started my walk as well, but I was forced to turn around and pull up my shield, a sniper shot bouncing off the cells.
