They stared in awe as the swirling vortex of cloud made contact to the ground.
"I think we need to get out of here!" Rick shouted. "The tornadoes are already appearing!"
"Yeah, let's go" Emma agreed. "But to where? Exactly?"
"Anywhere, we need to anywhere! Far from here!" Joshua said. "Maybe we should head back to the town or something!"
Rick and Emma nodded in agreement. They began retracing their way back to the town. A few debris began to come out from the swirling vortex, hurtling themselves everywhere. The swirling vortex began to feel its way on the ground, destroying everything on its path. The three of them covered their faces as they walked against the wind. Not only should they worry about appearing tornadoes, they also should worry about the flying debris that has been getting blown all around them. They have traveled quite a distance before the storm came and it just made it harder for them to reach the town as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a huge tornado began forming right ahead of them!
Oh no! These tornadoes are getting nastier by the minute. Joshua thought. Guess we have to use a different route.
"Do we make a run for it?" Rick shouted, his voice getting drowned in the strong winds. "It's still forming!"
"No, we go around it!" Joshua said. "Back to the trees!"
They all headed towards the side of the road, where they had hidden themselves when the kidnappers passed by. Trees swayed and bent as the wind blew through them. From a distance, the three of them could see multiple swirling vortexes forming everywhere. Some already reached the ground, sending everything under them flying everywhere.
"Um, are you sure the PULL was the one behind all these?" Rick asked. "I got a feeling that this is not caused by the PULL."
"We are not sure! Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But for now, we must take cover!" Emma said.
"Where?! We're in the middle of nowhere, you know. I could only see a highway as far as I could see!" Rick said.
He was right. They were actually in the middle of the storm, with nowhere to take cover.
Hoping to find cover, the three of them ran aimlessly towards the trees, but to no avail. The town was still far from where they were. From time to time, they looked around to make sure that no nearby tornadoes form near them. Trees began to crack and fall around them.
The storm's getting worse.
"We can't just run with nowhere to go!" Joshua finally said to them.
Emma covered his face as the wind blew against it. "Yeah, you're right! But what do we do? Got any plans?" She said.
Staring at each other, they realized that none of them got a plan. Joshua sighed. So far we have survived a couple of accidents and supernatural events caused by the PULL. Now, what do we do? We need a plan. Fast! He thought.
"Look out!" Rick shouted.
Just right above them, a tornado began to form. They could see the swirling vortex of clouds as it made its way towards the ground. They could clearly see the eye of the tornado or they were right below it. Then, they finally realized what has been happening.
"Run!" All three of them said.
Running together, they pushed against the wind as fast as they could, hoping to get as far away as they can from the forming tornado. The wind tugged at them as they struggled to maintain their balance. They could feel the force of the gusts, trying to pull them towards the tornado.
Still, they kept on running.
To their amazement, the tornado began to dissipate. They sighed in relief as they looked at the sky. Eventually, the storm died out. The sky began to clear, making the amount of damage visible to them.
"Phew, that was way too close!" Rick said, out of breath.
Joshua sat down on the ground, eyeing the dilapidated state of the trees. "Yeah, another one accident added on our lists."
"So, what do we do now?" Emma asked. "Any ideas?"
"Let's go to the town first and stay the night with the elderly woman." Joshua said as he looked at the setting sun. "We've been traveling for quite a long time, yet we didn't make any progress. I guess we should continue traveling tomorrow."
"Yeah, we should head back right now, we can't stay the night here with these uprooted trees, you know.
.....
After staying the night in the elderly woman's place, they started continuing their journey. The sun was just rising up as they woke up and had an early breakfast. The elderly woman was quite surprised to see them so soon last night, but she managed to prepare a dinner for four the other night.
"Where are the three of you actually heading? And there has been a storm yesterday as well. Were you caught up in it?" The elderly woman asked them as they all ate breakfast.
"We're heading to the Quiller corporation in London." Emma quickly answered.
"You mean the huge building in London? The one that recently closed down?"
"Yes ma'am."
"You're going to walk there on foot?" The woman asked. "What were the three of you actually thinking."
"Um, it's because we don't have any money to pay for a cab." Joshua answered.
"Why didn't you tell me in the first place?" The elderly woman snapped at them. "You could've been killed in that storm yesterday!...Anyway, will a hundred pounds be enough?"
The three of them insisted on walking all the way to the corporation, but the elderly woman forced them to accept the money, telling them that she might get scolded by their parents if they found out.
"I thought you got money, but when I saw you yesterday, you all seemed to have been attacked by a bear. Your clothes were all rip off. That's why, I'm giving you this money. That someone must have been waiting for you impatiently right now."
Yeah, I guess everyone's waiting for someone to put a stop to the PULL. Joshua said to himself.
"Thank you ma'am!" Joshua bowed after he accepted the money. "We can't thank you enough for helping us. We hope we could repay you for everything."
"No need to repay me. The days you spent here are more than enough to repay me, and you're like a family to me, you know." She said, a matter-of-factly.
After thanking her, the three of them headed straight towards the highway to look for a taxi. After a brief period of time, a taxi came. After giving directions to the driver, they all rode off.
Heading towards the corporation.
