Chapter 27: Abduction

Joshua tried to calm down as he looked around. As far as he knows, they were being chased by a lot of vehicles and they cannot outrun them by foot. And now that they really needed Emma's uncle, he doesn't seem to respond at all.

No, there must be something wrong here. He told us that he will respond anytime but why isn't he responding right now? Joshua worriedly asked himself as the three of them continued to run. Those chasing us would catch up to us any moment now. Joshua told himself. We need to run faster!

"Why don't you try it again, Emma? Try calling him again, maybe he just missed it or something." Joshua advised her while trying to calm himself. He would come. He should come. He thought.

"I already did! I tried it many time but no one's responding!" Emma exclaimed.

"Joshua, Emma, let's just run away from here and worry about those stuff later. We have to do it on our own now that we don't have anyone helping us." Rick told them.

"Yeah, Rick's right. Let's go, Joshua." Emma told him.

We got to calm down. We aren't thinking straight. I'm sure that the mastermind let us off the hook in purpose. That means, he wants us to run away! Joshua excitedly said to himself.

"Rick, Emma! We have to stop running right now!" He told them. "Let's just crouch under a bush or something."

"What do you mean?" Emma hesitantly asked. "We're being chased. Why do we have to stop running?"

"Isn't it weird? The mastermind just blew up a hole in the wall instead of just terminating us? Why did he go to great lengths in capturing us, only to release us again? I'd say, we're playing right into his tricks." Joshua tried to explain.

"What do you mean? Like he set up traps here and there?" Rick asked.

"Possibly." Joshua responded.

The three of them began to crouch down behind a small bush just before their chasers rushed in. To their relief, they weren't seen and there was no sign of the helicopter, nor the searchlight. Joshua heaved a sigh of relief as the noise of the engines slowly dissipated.

"Yes, come in?" The mastermind answered the call.

"Sir, this is the dispatch, reporting. They disappeared sir. We weren't able to track them down." 

"What?! You weren't able to track them down? Did I hear it correctly?"

"Yes, sir. But we're searching for them right now."

"Don't worry about it, it's all according to the plan." The mastermind said just before he hung up.

Mr. and Mrs. Tratzky stood uneasily from afar. They were trying to take in what just happened. To their utter amazement, they realized that the three of them were much smarter than they thought.

The mastermind stood up from his chair while rolling three large marbles in his hand. "It's almost time. Almost time for them to find about you." The mastermind grinned at Mr. and Mrs. Tratzky.

"So, you really planned for them to escape?" Mrs. Tratzky confirmed. "Why? After planning so hard to catch them, why did you let them escape?"

"Relax, Mrs. Tratzky. Everything is according to my plan. Just wait, wait and see."

After confirming that no one was chasing them, Joshua, Rick and Emma began to head towards Mr. Tratzky's place as fast as they could. Thinking that something must have happened to them, they began to worry.
