Chapter 5 - Natalie's P.O.V
Sprinting across my room and into my closet, I grabbed my outfit of choice and hurried my way back over to my vanity. Slipping on the skin tight long sleeved navy blue dress. The sleeves were lace, the dress ending mid-thigh. I paired it with white high heels and a white clutch. With my hair curled, I finished the final touch of lip gloss before heading down the steps. Walking past the living room, I prayed that Nate didn't see me.
"Where are you going dressed like that?" Nate demanded, coming up behind me.
Sighing, I turned around, "I have a date."
He gave me a curious expression, "With who? And why haven't I heard of this until now?"
"With Matt O'Connor and because I figured you'd flip out," I told him simply.
Nate nodded, "Alright, I remember him. Pretty good kid. But I wouldn't flip out, Nat."
Raising an eyebrow, I responded, "You're a terrible liar."
He laughed, "I know, right? But--"
The doorbell cut him off. Running better than I could in heels, he opened the door and I rushed over, making sure everything was in place.
"So, you're taking my sister on a date?" Nate asked seriously.
Matt nodded and swallowed nervously, "Uh, yes, that would be me."
"I make you nervous," It wasn't a question. Nate smiled, "Good."
I rolled my eyes and shoved my brother over, giving Matt a smile, "Are you ready to go?"
He nodded and held his hand out for me to grab. Taking it, I stepped outside and let him lead my to the passenger's seat of his car. I got into the car and he closed the door for me as a gentleman should.
"Sorry about my brother," I said sheepishly.
Matt chuckled, "I get it. I do have a younger sister, too."
After ten minutes of driving, we pulled into the parking lot of a nice Italian restaurant. Matt helped me out of the car and we sat down at our table immediately, him making reservations before coming.
We ordered our drinks and I looked over the menu, deciding what I wanted for dinner.
"So, do you just play baseball?" I asked him casually.
He shook his head, "I play basketball too, but that's more of just a hobby. What about you, any sports?"
"I run track," I answered.
"Oh, cool, which event?" He asked me, seeming to be genuinely interested.
"400 meter hurdles and pole vaulting," I answered.
He whistled lowly, "I don't know how you pole vault. I'd be terrified."
I raised an eyebrow, "Are you afraid of height?"
Matt nodded reluctantly and I laughed, "No need to be ashamed. Lots of people are afraid of heights."
"I give you major props for doing that," he shook his head with a small smile on his face.
I smiled too, "Well thanks."
The waiter came over and we ordered our meals. He was back out with our food within ten minutes, as we ended our conversation about family. I had left out the part about my grandmother, though, for some reason.
