Chapter 36 - Noah's P.O.V
It was the day of the dance and to be totally honest I was nervous as hell. I was actually surprised Natalie even said yes when I asked her to the formal.
Straightening my bow tie, I smoothed down my jacket and let out a breath. I'm f*cking Noah Hall, I shouldn't be this damn stressed about taking a girl to a stupid school dance. But I was. I was practically shaking like a scared little kid about to get on the scariest roller coaster at the amusement park-- and I hated it.
But then there was also the excitement, the butterflies-- very manly butterflies-- flying around my stomach, wreaking havoc inside of me as the anticipation of the night hit me.
"Oh, you look so handsome!" I heard a gasp and turned to see my mom standing in my doorway, a hand over her mouth.
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't fight the light smile that made its way onto my face, "Mom, it's not a big deal."
She scoffed, "You going to a school dance with a girl you like is a very big deal, young man!"
"Who says I like her?" I question.
She approached me and placed her hands on my shoulders, a proud smile on her face, "You did your hair and you're wearing a tux with a bow tie. I'd say that makes it very obvious."
A car horn cut us off and I sighed nervously.
"Go knock her off of her feet," She winked at me before shoving me out of my own room. With a stupid smiled on my face, I made my way downstairs and got into the car, greeting Jarrett and sitting in the front with him.
Jarrett looked at me like I had grown a second head, "I'm sorry, must be the wrong house. I'm looking for Noah Hall?"
Punching him on the arm, I glared at him, "Just drive."
He chuckled before backing out of the driveway and heading over to Natalie's house, where she and Kate were waiting for us to pick them up. As we neared the house, my nerves only built up more and more.
All too soon we were in the driveway and climbing out of the car, making our way up to the front porch. Jarrett rang the doorbell.
Mrs. Brooks opened the door, I of course recognized her from the dinners our families have had together.
She smiled, "Noah, hello! Oh, and you must be Jarrett! You both look so nice, come in come in!"
Without waiting for us to do it on our own, she ushered us into the house and called for the girls to come down.
Kate rushed down in a blur, tackling her boyfriend (Jarrett) in the process with a hug. Turning my head away from the happy couple, my eyes found Natalie, walking down the stairs.
She was gorgeous-- seeing her literally took my breath away. She was wearing a floor length blue dress with silver jewels on it and her hair was curled, rather than the typical straight hair she had. There was this glow around her, an aura of beauty and perfection and I'm sure I'm standing her like an idiot, my jaw hitting the floor as I took in the beautiful sight in front of me.
I did the best I could t recover and said a typical 'me thing', "You clean up nicely, Brooks."
"You don't look too bad yourself, Hall," She shot back at me, this adorable teasing smile on her face. She looked me up and down once before blushing and taking in a deep breath.
Her mom stopped us to take pictures, which took an agonizing ten minutes-- another ten minutes that I wouldn't be able to get my hands on her and dance with her.
God I'm so f*cking whipped.
When we got to the dance, there were certainly some double-takes as everyone took in Noah Hall and Natalie Brooks together; former enemies turned dance dates.
"You know," she spoke lowly amid the crowd of people, "I kind of was expecting this to be some big prank of yours."
I smirked, "I called a truce, remember?"
She shrugged, "I wouldn't put it past you."
I laughed, "Alright, how about I prove it to you with some damn good dancing skills."
"You dance?" She asked, laughing.
Rolling my eyes, I didn't even say anything back before dragging her out onto the dance floor, dancing to the first slow song with her. And let me tell you, it was amazing.
"You know, you're not that bad of a dancer, Hall," She complimented.
I smirked, "You could use a little work, though."
She laughed at my weak jab before her eyes settled in on my lips and mine on hers. They were painted a baby pink, glossy and plump, begging me to place my own on top of them.
I leaned in and thank God, so did she. We were only inches apart, inches away from finally kissing her, when suddenly, she jumped away.
"Mind if I cut in?" I threw an agitated look at Duke, my ugly f*ck of a cousin, who had so smoothly interrupted our moment.
Natalie squeezed my hand and acknowledged Duke, "Sure. You have one dance."
Leaving the two, I walked over to the wall, staring at them as they dance, a little too close together for my liking. They were talking and Duke looked like a constipated shit while Natalie looked pissed as hell.
Finally, Duke dropped his hand, nodded at Natalie and stormed over to the punch bowl. Quickly taking his spot, I asked her with a jealous tone, "What did the bastard want?"
"Nothing now," she smiled.
"Why's that?" I asked with a little caution.
"Because I told him to f*ck off," She grinned and I burst out laughing.
Taking her hand in mine, I knew there was a twinkle of mischief in them, "Do you wanna get out of here?"
She sighed in relief, "Hell yes."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we ended up back at me house, playing video games until three in the morning.
