Braelin's POV

I was an idiot. After pissing off the one guy in my new school who wasn't a racist asshole by threatening to fuck up his girlfriend, I had taken off down the hall and was now lost in my new school. To make things worse, the hallways were completed deserted since the first period had already started. Come on Braelin, find the class. Room 190, psychology. It was clear I was near the right section since the doors I passed read 145 and 169 but I was completely oblivious to where the room was. Finally, after 20 minutes of searching, I had found the room which ironically was right in front of where my locker was. Shaking my head I knocked on the door twice before entering. The class seemed to all be doing an independent study while the teacher typed something on her computer but all eyes shot up when I walked into the classroom.

"Hi, I think I'm supposed to be in this class, here's my sched—," I reached into my pocket for my schedule to show her when she suddenly yelled.

"She's got a gun!" And the whole class screamed and dropped to the ground, hiding underneath their desks. They couldn't be serious. The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence and I took a deep breath trying not to get too angry.

"My schedule. I think I'm supposed to be in this class. I'm Braelin Washington, your new student," I finished and a moment later she popped up from underneath the desk with an embarrassed smile on her face.

"Of course, of course. I knew that. I'm Miss. Anderson, nice to meet you Braelin."

"The pleasure's mine," I muttered sarcastically.

"Why don't you tell us a little about yourself and where you're from?"

"I'm from Atlanta, Georgia," I said not bothering to give them more information than that. Clearly, everybody had a stereotype about who I was so what was the point of correcting them.

"Very interesting. Why don't you take a seat beside Karen?"

"Ew, I don't want her brokenness to rub off on me." The whole classed burst out into 'ooooh's and I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"Shut up Karen! She can sit beside me," A girl said standing up and the teacher nodded in agreement.

"Thank you, Selena. Braelin, take a seat." Heading to my seat, I ignored the looks of disapproval and focused on the smile on Selena's face. I slid onto my chair and pulled out my notebook and flipped it open to one of the blank pages.

"Selena right?" I asked tapping her and she nodded. "What are we working on?"

"You can just borrow my outline since Miss. Anderson never has extra's but basically we're doing a study on how our opinions on people are based on stereotypes or what we hear in the media, kind of like what just happened," she said and I nodded agreeing. "Next week we're going to be partnered up to actually interview someone in another class but for today we're just writing out some stereotypes."

"Okay, thanks."

"No problem."

"Hey look, Braelin already needs help. She couldn't even last five minutes. Stupid black girl," Karen whisper-yelled to her friend and I bit my lip to keep from going off.

"Karen her name isn't a dick so why don't you keep it out of your mouth, thanks!" Selena said and I couldn't help the laughter that escaped my lips.

Selena was definitely a keeper!

***

After psychology, I had math which happened to be with queen bitch herself, Miss Cheerleader— Whose name was actually Stacey, and Karen, who seemed to be the queen bitch in training as she followed her around like a lost puppy but I had Selena there to get me through it. But thankfully they were both done with and it was now lunch.
