Short chapter but tomorrow's will be longer
Braelin
"So there's a teacher at your school who's got the jungle fever?" Layla said as she painted her toe nails over Skype and I nodded.
"Apparently and they've been married over ten years."
"Damn ten years in that town? I could barely go ten hours without strangling Stacey. So what's her story?"
"I don't know you know. I just know that she wanted to study engineering and back then women weren't allowed to take that course."
"What? That's ridiculous," Layla complained and I agreed. That was ridiculous.
"But she did something and now she has the number one engineering companies in the country."
"Take that society!" Layla said sticking out her tongue and I couldn't help but laugh. "I see you got your necklace back."
"Yeah, Cameron somehow convinced Stacey into giving it back."
"That's good. I can't believe she took it though."
"Yeah me either than has the audacity to call black people thieves."
"Did you at least report it to the office."
"Yup but they were no help, apparently Stacey claims she found it and was looking to give it to me when she saw Cameron."
"I'm sure she was," Layla said rolling her eyes.
"Hey Braelin can you come down here for a second!" My mom yelled and I nodded even though she couldn't see me.
"Coming!" I yelled back before turning my attention back to Layla. "I'll call you back okay?"
"Alright I have to go text my boyfriend anyways," she said with a grin and I rolled my eyes before hanging up and heading downstairs. I followed the sound of laughter coming from the living room before I saw Lorenzo, my mom and Sam in a debate.
"Good your here I need someone who has sense," my mom said and Lorenzo rolled his eyes. "What's better; Italian or Soul Food?"
"Soul food obviously," I answered and she threw her hands up before pulling me in for a hug.
"This is why your are my daughter because these two don't know what there talking about."
"I mean soul food is good, hell it's amazing but it doesn't top Italian food," Lorenzo said before Sam high fived him
"Your crazy, soul food is amazing," I said before my mom interrupted.
"Tomorrow night we'll do a cookoff. Italian vs soulfood."
"And Braelin can invite her boyfriend," Sam teased and I glared in his direction while my mom raised an eyebrow.
"Boyfriend?" She asked shocked.
"Uh yeah. His name is Cameron."
"Is he cute?" She asked sounding a bit like Layla and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah."
"Does he treat you right?"
"Yes."
"Then we'd love to have him over for dinner," Lorenzo said with a smile and I nodded.
"I'll ask him but he may not even say yes."
"Well text him now," my mom said excitedly and I shot her a curious glance before shrugging and pulling out my cell.
What are you doing tomorrow night?
He replied instantly
Nothing yet why?-Cameron
You have officially been invited to dinner with my family blue eyes.
His response came even quicker than last time.
What?-Cameron
Seriously-Cameron
Okay cool, I can do this-Cameron
Should I bring something?-CameronI laughed lightly at his response and ignored the curious glances I was getting from my family as I texted back.
Relax. It's an Italian vs soulfood cookoff and your invited.
In that case, I'll see you there gorgeous-Cameron.
Grinning I put down my phone before looking up to catch my mom waiting expectantly.
"He's coming."
"Great!" My mom said before going into a conversation about it all but I couldn't help but hope it would all go really well because whether I liked it or not, I was falling for Cameron. And hard.
CameronI dropped my phone on my bed with a smile as I thought about Braelin. How did I manages to get a girl like her? Not only was she smart, she was funny, and althetic.
"Cameron can I see you for a moment?" My dad called from downstairs and sighing I dropped my phone on my bed before heading down the stairs. My dad, as per usual, was at his study with his reading glasses perched on the brink of his nose. Him and I were basically identical except his dirty brown hair had a sprinkling of gray hair.
"You called?" I said leaning against the doorframe and he looked up at me before slipping off his glasses and pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Hows school been?"
"It's fine."
"Nothing you want to talk about?" He asked raising an eyebrow and I shrugged.
"Nope."
"How about Stacey? How's your relationship?"
"Never been better."
"Oh really? Well I was just told after a very angry call from Stacey's father that you broke up with her."
"Exactly why I said it's never been better. I'm happy without her."
"And better with that black whore, what's here name?"
"Braelin and she is not a whore, she's this amazing gi--"
"I don't care. I need you to end whatever this is with this girl and end it quick."
"And if I don't?" I asked and he looked shocked as hell and so was I. Never in my life had I ever challenged my father but here I was, challenging him for Braelin.
"If you don't, you and your little friend will regret it."
