"stiles! get the fuck over here," my dad shouts and i walk over to him. he demands i get him another beer and that's what i do. my dad stands up and faces me enraged.
today is my moms birthday. that's probably why my dad is in a particularly bad mood. it's a really hard day for me, too.
"i can't believe she's dead and you're alive. fucking infuriating," he snarls, punching me in the eye. i fall backwards into the wall. he puts his arm on my chest, leaning me against the way. "she was everything. you are nothing."
he punches me again, this time i fall to the floor. he kicks me repeatedly, screaming words like "idiot" "worthless" "piece of shit" at me. i start to cry quietly.
he gets down to the floor and whispers "i hate you so goddamn much" and starts punching me in the face.
he starts crying, and walks away from me. he sits on his recliner and just cries, blood staining the wall and floor. i'm crying too.
i use whatever strength i have to push myself off the floor and on my feet. everything hurts so badly. i limp out of the door, leaving my father alone.
i need someone. i need a friend. i can't be alone tonight. there is only one persons house i faintly remember to go.
-
"stiles," lydia says quietly when she opens the door for me. i look at her, feeling the blood dripping down my face. "come in."
i walk into lydia's house and she motions for me to sit on this chair next to her kitchen table. she wets a washcloth and starts pressing it to my face.
"i need a friend," i croak out, trying my hardest not to start crying at this exact moment. lydia gives me a smile and embraces her hand in mine.
"i'll always be here for you. i owe you, anyway," she says and let's out a light hearted giggle. i smile at her, probably with a mouthful of blood.
once she finishes cleaning up the blood off my face, she grabs me an ice pack for my eye. "here," she says as she gives me it. i mutter a thanks and place it on my eye.
"can you tell me what happened? be honest stiles, i care about you so much i can't stand to see you like this," lydia says, giving me a pleading look.
"m-my dad." is all i say, and lydia just nods understandingly. she puts her arms around me, embracing me in a hug. i accept the hug, and start hugging her back. "today is my moms birthday. she would be 48 if some drunk driver never ran a red light." i can't help the tears that start to flow out of my eyes as i whimper quietly.
"it's okay, stiles. i'm here for you, always," lydia says, rubbing my back in the slightest.
"i don't want to be alone anymore."
"then don't. i'm here."
lydia decided its best that i spend the night tonight, so she made the couch into my bed. she put a sheet over the cushions and gave me a real pillow, not a small one.
i tried to convince her to sleep with me, not like have sex, but just sleep next to me. i wanted her by my side at night, but she said her grandparents are home and that's why we can't.
maybe i was too forward with her, expressing my want and need for her to sleep by my side. maybe she really does just pity me.
i sneak out of her house in the morning, before anyone else woke up.
