Right Side UpRayne
--------------I shifted on the bag underneath my legs, staring at the five men in the van. It was only the second time in this thing, but at least I wasn't gagged and tied up.
Dan started up the van and started driving. Cody turned in his seat to look at me.
"It's... It started in 2010," he said. "It's when they first started getting active, I guess. This one-" he reached back to slap Mirror Maxx on the knee. "Started it."
"Yeah." Mirror Maxx took in a shaky breath and nodded. "Cody told me to try it out, and I was really dumb and would do whatever he said. So..." he shook out his hair and leaned his head back. "Brie was a good friend staying with them for a while, her house was getting renovated or something."
"You remember this a bit too well," Maxx noted.
"I can't forget it," the other replied. "Literally, we have the memory of an elephant. Anyways, yeah. That night I killed her." he dropped his hands into his lap.
"Technically, you made me kill her, considering you were using my body," Maxx chimed.
"Okay," I said, confirming that I heard him right, although I wish I heard that wrong. "I saw at least four bodies, though."
"Zach was next," Mirror Maxx continued. "They had an old friend named Andrew, and he was next. Zach said he choked him, but I'm not sure." he took in a deep breath, and I did the same, resting my arm against the back of the seat. "Then Cody with Jaydien, and Dan with Sydney. They weren't the only deaths, though."
"Wait a sec." I looked to Zach accusingly. "You said Jaydien left."
"I lied," he admitted. "What, was I supposed to just outright tell you we killed her?"
"It would've been okay to know that she was at least dead." I shrugged. "Couldn't you have made up a death story? Like, getting mauled by a bear or something?"
"Yeah, a demon bear came through a mirror in the woods and bit her face off," Cody scoffed sarcastically.
"Speaking of mirrors, I have another question." everyone indicated that they were listening. "Why'd we bring this Maxx?" I looked at Mirror Maxx, who's mouth was open slightly. "I mean, no offense, you seem like a cool guy, but..." I trailed off, shrugging again.
"Good question," Dan said up front. "Isn't he why we're in this mess?"
"I know things that you don't," Mirror Maxx replied quickly. "I can help."
"How?" Cody prompted, turning in his seat, unamused. "If anything, you ruin everything."
"You don't know exactly how we work," Mirror Maxx explained. "I do. I can help you guys, honest."
"How do we know that you won't turn on us at any second?"
"Because I don't want to go back there." he stared at all of us, ending with me.
Fuck. Take my own words why don't you? That's what I told Maxx and Cody, verbatim.
"If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it already."
"Maybe we should give him a chance," I blurted. "I mean, he looks honest." Or I'm being really fucking biased because he's in the same situation I was.
"It's not too late to drop him off," Maxx countered. "I appreciate your help, man," he directed to his twin, "but... You understand why we're uncomfortable right now. Right?"
