We must have driven for hours before arriving in the next state, Tennessee. The entire day was spent in the van, and Zach only got out to refill the gas tank. The sun was long down, but nobody was asleep, save for Mirror Maxx, who was beginning to get drowsy.

I had kept my phone plugged into the car charger in the back, playing whatever games I had on there, constantly taking breaks to talk with everyone. I learned that Benji was a photographer and Austin worked at Zack's before we picked them up. Now, Austin was telling a story of how he got his hand stuck in the garbage disposal.

"Wait, wait, wait," Cody interrupted with a small laugh. "you got your hand stuck, and nobody knew about it?"

"Not at all!" Austin claimed. "I kept trying to get someone's attention, but nobody was listening. And then, someone tried turning on the light-"

"But they turned on the disposal," Benji finished.

I flinched back, grimacing. "Oh yikes."

Austin smiled at me and held his hand up, which had a ton of faint scars. "Yeah, yikes. Boss let me off for about two weeks until my hand got better."

"He came home with blood all on his shirt," Benji recalled, "I thought he was shot and bleeding out and was halfway dialing through 911. That was the most eventful day I remember."

"I mean, we went to a water park once, but nothing bad ever happened." Austin shrugged.

I felt someone's hand on mine on the floor, and saw Mirror Maxx hunched up and holding my hand.

"You okay?" I asked softly, noting his shaking. "Is something bad happening?"

"I'm fine," he replied in a small whisper I barely heard. "It's just... Weird. Hearing their voices again. And it's not in my head."

Right. He hasn't seen those two in forever. I looked up and saw Maxx with his phone out, taking a selfie with Cody in the back.

"Hey," I whispered, trying to get him to sit up. "Wanna take a selfie?"

"A what?" he looked up, confused.

"A selfie." I unplugged my fully charged phone and turned on the camera. "You know, taking a picture of yourself. A lot of times with friends."

"Hey, if you do take pictures," Dan called to me, "Don't post them anywhere. We're trying to stay low, and if a missing kid posts something on instagram or whatever..."

"Don't worry," I assured, "I don't even have an instagram, or twitter or Snapchat. The guys back home only gave me this so they could keep track of me. Although they haven't called me ever since I went missing." I looked down at my phone with a shrug.

"Just making sure," Dan replied.

"So, how's this selfie thing work?" Mirror Maxx asked. "I'm kinda new to the whole thing here."

"It's literally just taking a picture with you and your friends," I explained, then realized something. "You didn't have much technology in your world, did you?"

Maxx dipped his head and shook it. "Nah. Unless glowing trees count."

"Selfies are actually a ton of fun," Austin admitted, taking his own phone out. "I have a lot with me and Benji."

"So, it's just taking pictures?" Mirror Maxx asked.

"Yeah, with your friends." I held up my phone, the camera still pulled up. "Wanna take one?"
