"This close, we were this close!" Cody screamed hoarsely. "God dammit, we were right there!"

He was alone, screaming in the middle of the forest.

Rayne was clapping excitedly and giggling, having climbed a tall tree to get away from a very angry Dan.

"Fucking rat, this isn't funny!" he cried, starting to climb the tree.

"I know!" Rayne cackled, climbing higher. "But when Cody slammed his face into nothing, that was priceless!"

"Will you FUCKING get down here?!" Dan yelled.

"My pleasure." Rayne smirked and dropped out of the branch they were on, landing her feet on Dan's head and kicking him out of the tree, themself still hanging from a branch. "Well, there's only one thing to do now."

"Kill you and have no more trouble?" Dan insisted, cracking his knuckles. "Because that's fine with me." his face was sporting an open wound above his eye.

"I was thinkin'." Rayne looked out into the giant repetitive forest, seeing nothing but blue and black trees. "Maxx got outta here somehow, right?"

"Yeah, so?"

"So, what if we find that spot and get outta here?"

"Oh fuck off," Zach hissed. "No way would we even survive out there. We stick out too much."

"Oh, not that much! We could pass off as hobos!"

"Yeah, but you don't usually see a group of hobos with glowing eyes." Dan rubbed his bleeding face.

"It's our only shot, really. If we wanna get to them, we don't need a barrier in our way."

"True," Zach agreed. "And now that Pistol's gone, the dogs will be fighting for our hide."

"Yeah, like the dogs are gonna even care about us," Dan snapped back. He looked around the dark forest, faintly hearing Cody screaming. "God, can someone go shut him up?"

"I can do it!" Rayne chirped, climbing down from the tree. Dan swiftly snatched their neck, stopping them before they could leave.

"No, you hold the fuck on." Dan dug in his pocket, taking out a shard of his mirror.

The second Rayne saw it, their eyes went wide. "H-Hey jackass, what do ya think you're doing with that?"

"This is for kicking me in the fucking face," Dan hissed, holding the kid by the neck in a choke hold.

Their shriek awoke the entire forest. The trees glowed, creatures rustled. Even Cody stopped his angry yelling.

Two beasts rose from where they were sleeping, shaking their heads out and immediately sniffing the ground for any scent.

"Dan, WHAT THE FUCK?!" Rayne screeched, tearing the bloody mirror shard out of their face, throwing it far from all of them.

Cody was running towards the scream, picking up his own scent of animal and blood.

"Walk it off!" Dan shouted back, and Rayne moved out of the way before he could punch them.
