Right Side UpRayne
--------------"Sorry if the place is a mess," Austin murmured when all of us were standing on the small porch of a tiny wooden house. "We don't really get random visitors."
"Sorry about the short notice," Dan apologized.
Austin just scoffed and opened the door to his home. "Ben, I'm home!" he called. "We got people!"
I clung to Mirror Maxx's arm the whole time we were in the van, and now. I'm never good in situations like this.
We followed Austin through a small hallway and into what appeared to be the living room. There were papers everywhere, a couch in front of a small coffee table which were both in front of a TV. On the couch sat a boy with dark skin and darker hair wound into thick dreadlocks. He was skinny with baggy clothes hanging from his body and a game controller in his hands.
"Hey, man," he greeted Austin, pausing whatever game he is playing to welcome his friend. "Ah, who's the small crowd?"
"Benji," Zach softly whispered, then he shook his head. "Uh, hi. I'm Zach, and that's Dan, Cody, Maxx, Rayne, and, Uh..." he paused his pointing at everyone to look at Mirror Maxx. "Other Maxx."
"I've been thinking him as Mirror Maxx," I quipped. "You know, since he came out of a mirror?"
"And that's even more questions," Austin huffed impatiently. "Come on in, have a seat. Apparently," He directed at Benji, "We both were in a band with them at some point. They keep talking to me like they know me."
"Fuckin' weird," Benji replied, Mirror Maxx pulling me along with him, where we both stood beside the couch.
"Okay, you have a lot of questions," Cody started, looking at Austin and Benji. "Fire away."
"Okay..." Austin started to pace. "Mirror guy? That one?" he pointed to Mirror Maxx, who shifted a little. "What's with the whole mirror thing?"
"There's these demons," Maxx tried to explain, "And they're like us, but... Bad? And they live in this mirrored place, it's really weird."
"I'm not bad," Mirror Maxx grumbled mostly to me.
"Yo, what's with your eye?" Benji asked, peering at Maxx. "Both of you? They look identical."
"Ah, cat scratched us," Mirror Maxx replied.
I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it was a huge cat."
"So, mirror demons and giant cats. Okay, what's next, dragons?" Austin scoffed. "How do you know me again?"
"We were friends," Maxx immediately blurted. "Good friends. And then I killed someone and you left."
"Woah, hold up!" Benji reeled back. "Rewind, you killed someone?!"
"Well, it wasn't exactly me-"
"It was me," Mirror Maxx said, ashamed. "I-I was following what the other Cody told me to do. And after I did, you up and left."
"Well, I don't blame myself," Austin scoffed.
"You left us on our own," Cody hissed. "You were supposed to help us, God dammit."
"Look, I don't really remember all this. I think I'd remember some mirror demons, or-or giant cats..."
"Y'all sure you just have the wrong guy?" Benji asked. "I mean, all of this is super unrealistic."
