~Dacota's POV~
"Good morning, class!" Mr. Green, the algebra teacher, says. The class grumbles a good morning, even though it's Monday.
"Today, we're actually not going to start anything new." I sit up straighter in my chair at this.
"We're getting a new student in the next few days, so, today we're just going to go over some of the sections you have trouble with." I groan; I have an A in all of my classes, including this one.
"So, what do you want to go over?" A girl named Britney raises her hand.
"Britney."
"Greatest common factors." she says in her squeaky voice. This is going to be a loooooong day...

Flash forward two hours and I'm in lunch. I'm looking for my friend Lainey, but I can't seem to find her.
"Where are you, Lain..." I mumble to myself. I set my tray on our normal table to get my phone out.
"Hello?" a voice answers with a cough.
"Lainey?" I say shocked.
"Hey, Dacota. I know it's lunch and I'm sorry but I went home because, as you can tell, I'm sick. It's probably just allergies, but still."
"It's okay, babe. I'm sorry you don't feel good. Get better soon." We hang up and I sigh. I don't really know where else to sit... Aha! I see my other friend Emily sitting with her boyfriend, Alex. I carefully run over there and plop next to her.
"Hey, Dacota!" she says and hugs me. Alex waves and says hi while still keeping one hand in Emily's. They just started dating last month and she's still so excited about it.
"What's up?" She asks, spooning some yogurt into her mouth.
"Well, Lainey went home sick, and I know you and Alex want some privacy," I wiggled my eyebrows at her, to which both of them blushed at, "but, as you know, I have no other friends, so I hope you don't mind me sitting here?" Emily looked to Alex, who shrugged, so she said it was fine.
We gossiped a bit, talking about grades and such, until Emily fake-coughed, "Slut alert." I smiled, for I knew exactly who it was. Walking between the cafeteria tables in all her pink glory, was Laurel Knight and her equally pink clique. She was the snobbiest, preppiest girl I had ever seen. She strongly resembled Reese Witherspoon from Legally Blonde, but without any brains. The three of us laughed at her surrounding minions carrying her tray of food and purses. She shot us a dirty look, but it didn't look very intimidating with all the makeup. They sat down, and her posse scattered in trying to make Laurel's eating space perfect. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Aren't I glad I didn't get into that?" Emily muttered. Long ago, they were best friends, long before I came into the picture. Alex laughed, and they got into their own cute, fluffy conversation. I know she didn't mean it, he was her first boyfriend and she's liked him forever. But, I couldn't help but feel bored beyond reasoning as I ate. If only there were something exciting in my life.
