*Dacota's POV*

I wiggled out of Harry's arms, wiping my eyes. I tried to smile, but it probably ended up looking fake.

"So, bacon?" I say, trying to break the depressing tension.

"Oh, uh, yeah," he says, rubbing the back of his neck. "You were still asleep, and I was feeling a bit hungry, so..." I smiled, gesturing for him to stop talking.

"It's fine. I don't blame you," I say, pushing past him and wrapping my hand around the pan handle. "So, you didn't make anything else?"

His cheeks turned a slight shade of pink, and his forest green eyes darted to the floor, as he said, "Nope." in a quiet voice. I shake my head.

"You're ridiculous," I say. I took the black spatula from the counter, scooped the slices off the pan, and onto a paper towel-covered paper plate. I leaned onto the counter as steam rose from the plate. Harry was leaned against the fridge across from me, staring me down. I couldn't help but smile as we competed in our little staring contest, which, of course, made him smile.

"You're stupid," I say, nearly sounding like a child.

"You're stupider."

"You're so stupid, you made bacon the only thing for breakfast."

"You're so stupid, you didn't wake up to tell me what to make for breakfast."

"You're so stupid, you didn't wake me up so I could tell you what to make for breakfast."

"You're so stupid, you got embarrassed from a little peck on the cheek."

"You're so stupid, you don't realize how embarrassing that was for me, because I've never kissed a guy on the cheek before."

"Not even your dad?"

"He's never around."

"Oh, well, you're so stupid, you couldn't see how much of a womanizer Isaac is."

"Well, you're so stupid, you can't see that I am not interested in Isaac in any way, shape, or form." We'd started moving closer to each, pushing off the counter and fridge to step closer to each other and raise our voices.

"You're so stupid, you actually agreed to tutor me. We haven't tutored since the paps."

"You're so stupid, you got me in a car chase with a bunch of paps."

"You're so stupid, you can't make a paper airplane."

"You're so stupid, you didn't bring paper to teach me how to make a paper airplane."

"You're so stupid, you don't have any paper at your own house."

"You're so stupid, you think I don't have paper in my house."

"You're so stupid, you didn't get paper out last night, we would've had lessons."

"You're so stupid, you don't realize how much of a procrastinator I am." We were standing nearly on top of each other, yelling at the top of our lungs.

"You're so stupid, you don't realize that toe-pointed boots on a daily basis isn't fashionable."

"You're so stupid, you don't realize it is, indeed, fashionable."

"You're so stupid, you couldn't remember what Inigo Montoya's name was in the beginning."

"You're so stupid, you don't see how much I like you!" This comment made me stop, the next insult stuck in my throat.

"W-what did you say?" I asked in a quiet voice. Harry's eyes were focused on the floor again, hands behind his back.

"I said," he responded in a whisper. He began to inch closer, making me back into the counter. "You are so stupid, you don't see how much I like you." My mind was racing. Harry liked me? This can't be true. But, all negative thoughts were pushed away as he pushed his hand into my hair. His eyes slowly slid up to my face, resting, presumably, on my lips, then back to my own eyes. At this moment, with the rain pounding on the roof above us, distant lightning flashing in the window, I realized just how handsome he was. Perfectly chiseled jawline and cheekbones, pink lips, and the dimples that made an appearance every time he smiled or laughed, which would show off his white teeth.

"How can someone like you like someone like me?" I hesitantly asked, resting my palms on his chest.

"How can I not like you?" he says. He slowly closes his eyes, leans forward the remaining inch, and closes the gap between us. I didn't know I had been waiting for this moment until I closed my own eyes and rose my hands to cup his face. I felt euphoric.
