I woke up to an empty room, shouts ringing out from downstairs. I saw bottles of a shimmery gold liquid on the table next to me, two bottles empty. Only one stood full with one half empty. I heard shouting and a crash, causing me to stand up and stumble against the door, shutting my eyes as I felt a little weak.
I opened the door and made my way down the stairs, finding a very angry Xander being held back from Daniel and Alex. He stiffened as I touched the last step, Daniel and Alex's eyes staring at me.
"What's going on?" I asked quietly, Daniel simply shaking his head.
"Go back upstairs, now." He spoke to me through gritted teeth, his eyes flickering to Xander.
"Don't fucking speak to her that way!" My eyes widened at Xander's tone, his Alpha voice coming through. It made Daniel and Alex bow their head submissively, my head staying upright. I was a fox, he was not my Alpha.
Xander turned to me with black eyes, his wolf obviously taking over. "What's your name?" I asked him.
"Adrian. Why does this mere wolf speak to you this way?" His voice softened as he spoke, my head cocking slightly.
"He worries about me, why are you here?" I watched him turn and growl at Daniel slightly before turning back to me.
"I worry about you as well. I haven't seen you in an entire day, they wouldn't let me see you. Xander was going stir crazy, his missed your scent." I smiled, keeping my distance from him.
"I missed his, but shouldn't you let him come back?"
He grinned at me with such a wolffish grin, I watched his eyes swirl with black ink before they finally settled into the green irises I had grown to love. He took deep steps to me and enveloped me in a hug that I could honestly get lost in. I sniffed his skin, grinning as his warmth spread over my skin.
But my powers always seem to find a way to get in the way of everything, and this was no exception. I was so weak i began to suck in his energy, desperately trying to complete myself. I ripped myself away from him and took a step back, pain flashing across his face.
"I'm going to eat dressed." I quickly covered up. He smiled before taking a step back down, walking back to Alex.
"Good, because we're having dinner soon and my mom requested both of you. It seems my mom and yours have taken a liking to one another." I smiled as I walked upstairs, throwing my hair into a bun. I tugged on some leggings and a grey sweater, soft curls falling out of my messy bun.
I walked back downstairs to Daniel standing in the living room alone, Daniel standing by the door. "I sent them ahead, we need to talk."
"Okay, then talk?"
He sighed, rubbing his hands through his hair. "You're his mate, he'll find out soon. We can't run if they come find you, what will you do?"
I rubbed my eyes, "I was out for a day?"
He nodded, looking pointedly at me. "You didn't answer the question."
"Look, the war is coming. The Moon Goddess came to me, she told specifically me, I think the government trying to kill me off is the least of my worries." He growled before he shook his head and slipped out the front door, leaving me to follow behind him.
I was at the school for one day, missed another full day, and now was on my way to another dinner at the pack house. The fact the Alpha was my mate was my weakness, I was his weakness, even if he didn't know it yet.
I stepped inside the immaculate home, suddenly self conscious of the fact I was still barefoot. I hated shoes, I didn't want any barriers between me and the earth.
