I pressed my head against the cool glass in the car, watching trees roll by us as we drove on the small country road. We were in some town in north California, merely ten minutes away from my new home, and ten minutes away from entering the new territory.
"Are you ready Ashe?" I turned to look at my brother Daniel, his sandy blonde hair splayed across his forehead.
"As ready as I'll ever be, I'm just tired of starting new high schools over and over again." I huffed, my fingers mindlessly playing with one another.
"You know the story right? You're human, you never got your wolf, and any reason you could possibly have to smell anything like one if because of us." I caught my mothers bright blue eyes in the mirror, crinkles coming off the corners of each one as she spoke.
I nodded as she spoke, the same story we had every time we moved ran through my head. It was always the same, stay hidden, stay running. I felt the same field of power push through me as we entered the new pack territory, the flash of trees moving caught my eye as pack warriors ran along with our car.
As a werefox, I had every single power wolves had, and then some. I had healing powers, as well as being able to enter and alter dreams, and receive and push out memories. The elements of nature were my second nature, everywhere I touched plants just seemed to thrive, unless I was sad or angry. When that happened, let's just say it wasn't pretty.
My mother pushed the car to a stop as a man stood in the road, power rolling off of him in waves as he walked to her window. He looked incredibly young, innocence playing with the power that fell off of him. "State your business."
"We're simply here to start new and put my children through school," She paused and waved her hand to me and my brother. "They'll be staring tomorrow, my son is a wolf but my daughter is human."
I could feel the contacts I had in my eyes drying slowly, his heartbeat a normal rate as it reached my ears. I had unusual bright orange eyes that changed with my emotions, so brown contacts rested to not alert everyone of who I was. I also constantly dyed my hair brown, the red from my fox seemed to always want to spring forward.
He's the beta.
My eyes rolled over his body as he continued speaking wth my mother, his eyes glazing over as he mindlinked what I assume was the Alpha, before nodding and moving out of the way to allow us to pass.
We finally pulled up to a house deep in the woods, a few hundred yards away from the pack house.
"I thought the point of us not living in the pack house was so we had privacy!" I exclaimed when I saw the close proximity.
More like you have privacy.
"We have a different home, this is just until the Alpha comes from whatever trip he's on and can approve your brother and I into the pack. Besides, there's a waterfall a few miles away that you can, be yourself." I caught onto her double meaning, nodding as we walked up the steps to the home.
I smiled as I stepped inside, pushing my brother as I ran up the stairs to find my room. "Hey!" He simply yelped as I ran into one of the bigger rooms with an adjoining bathroom. I squealed, flopping down on the bed that was perfectly made.
I guess the pack had someone furnish the house.
I nodded at my fox, walking back down the steps to help my mom and brother being in boxes. As soon as we finished, a knock rang out in the door. I opened it to find the beta from earlier, his nose prickled as he sniffed around.
"Can I help you?" I asked him quietly. He sniffed around before shaking his head, muttering something to himself.
"It's nothing, the former Luna had requested you at the home for a first tonight, it's staring in 30 minutes." I nodded at his words, mentally reminding myself to spray myself with my potion before I went over there.
