I soon woke up feeling more refreshed and at ease then I'd been in a while. I slowly sat up, my arm aching a bit and looked around the room. It was dark as I could clearly see outside; the full moon was up making the forest look beautiful, casting shadows over the trees, making it come alive.
"Enjoying the view?" Alice asked startling me, making me jump. I hadn't even seen her there, sitting on the couch in front of the bed.
"It's so beautiful," I breathed. She got up and gracefully walked over to the bed where she sat down next to me, like she did yesterday. I looked at her and saw that her eyes were a warm, honey colour. She was so beautiful in the moonlight that I couldn't look away for fear she would disappear.
"How are you feeling, Bella?" she asked softly. I swallowed loudly, very aware of the fact that she could probably hear my loud heartbeat.
"I'm much better, thank you. Your eyes are back to gold," I pointed out the obvious. She smiled and nodded.
"I feel more comfortable around you now."
Awkward. I suddenly thought of another question.
"Are you the only one who can see into the future?" I asked.
"Yes. All of us vampires have super human strength, hearing and speed, but only Edward can read people's minds, and Jasper can control a persons' mood. For some reason though, Edward can't read your mind."
"Why? Is there something wrong with me?" I asked. She chuckled brightly.
"No, of course there's nothing wrong with you. You're just... different."
"Oh." Wow, that made me feel so much better. I laid back down on the pillows. "How did you become a vampire?" I looked at her and she suddenly seemed sad.
"The others were all bitten by Carlisle while at the brink of death."
"What about you?"
"I'd rather not speak about that."
I nodded and it went quiet.
"Are you and Jasper... you know, together?" I asked curiously. She looked at me weirdly, as if trying to figure out why I would ask that.
"No, he's more like a brother to me," she answered. "Why?"
"Well, everyone seems like they are couples in your family, so I just assumed."
On the inside though, I was so happy and I didn't even know why. She shook her head, clearly amused.
"What about you?"
My first thoughts went to Edward, as I did find him attractive, I couldn't deny that but other than him, I didn't like anyone. Except her.
"Nope. No one," I said popping the 'p.'
"What about Edward? I know you must like him," she asked, with an edge to her tone. I looked at her curiously.
"He's attractive, I'll give him that, but I don't like him," I answered steadily. She smiled at me, warming me up again.
"Even thinking about liking us is a bad idea, Bella. I've put you in grave danger just by telling you about us," Alice said but I refused to be frightened.
"I don't care," I said stubbornly.
"You are a strange one," she said shaking her head.
"Yeah I am, so you'd better get used to it."
She looked at me with a gleam in her eye.
"Oh, I don't think that will be too hard," she winked at me. "I'm sure you're hungry."
