"All right, so I found some cool two bedrooms in the Mission District, but they're pretty expensive. A couple in Haight and Ashbury. Also expensive" I said
"What about Berkeley? Don't a lot of students live around there?" Scott said
Scott and I are at our secret spot out in the woods right now. Our high school days are almost coming to an end which means we gotta figure out what we're gonna do. The plan is for me and Scott to get an apartment together. We're all moving on soon and have to get into colleges. It's gonna be a new step in our lives.
"Yeah, yeah, we could try Nob Hill. But, the jeep would probably burn through a lot of clutches" I said
"You're bringing the jeep?" Scott said
"You know the plan, okay? No one gets left behind. That's the plan. Lydia's not gonna have a problem getting into Standford. Kira's thinking USF. Malia's, uh, gonna you know. She'll figure something out sometime. And Skylar, hopefully wherever we go she comes too." I said
"Or we could also wait until we actually get into college and then figure out where to live." Scott said
"I have a vision, dude. Okay? And it is a beautiful vision. Don't ruin the vision. Okay, we can check out the East Bay. Haven't looked at Oakland yet, you know?" I said
I looked to Scott who's sitting on the hood of my jeep and see he's staring at the moon. I look up and see the full moon and look back to him.
"You all right? You starting to feel it?" I said
"No. Just thinking" he said
"About what?" I said
"Senior year." He said
"Senior year, come on, that's, that's....that's nothing. It's gonna be easy" I said
"It's more like something Deaton told me once. You ever hear of regression to the mean?" He said
"No, I don't think so" I said
"It was his way of saying that life can't ever be all bad or all good. You know, eventually things have to come back to the middle. So, think about the last few months. Things have been good, right? But not amazing." He said
"Yeah, but no ones tried to kill us in six months either" I said
"Right. We've been pretty much in the middle for awhile. Which means, at some point, the scale has to tip one way or the other. Things are gonna get really good again..." He said
"Or really bad" I said and then it started thundering and lightening. "Think it's been long enough?" I asked when someone popped into my mind.
"YES!" Liam screamed from behind us.
Oops, forgot he was here. We have him chained up to a tree. We still don't think he's gonna be okay on full moons.
"Hey. Trying to have an adult conversation over here." I said to him.
"All right, you're two years older than me. And I'm fine. Just let me go" he said
Scott and I walked over to him and Scott grabbed the key.
"It's not that we don't trust you" Scott said about to unlock the chains.
"It's that I don't trust you" I said
"But after that last full moon..." Scott was saying and Liam cut in.
"It was one slip up" Liam said
