Theo's pov
"You want me to put it on?" Josh said
"You won't die if you put it on." Tracy said
"How do you know that?" Or is it just that you don't want to put it on yourself? Or you?" Josh said looking to me and Tracy.
I have to mask from Valack sitting on the table. I know that this could possibly kill me so I need Josh to do it.
"I'm not afraid to do it, Josh. I'm just not stupid." I said
"Are you not getting that it could kill us? You're the one with the power." Tracy said
"They want you to wear it, Josh, because the properties of the mask are based in electro-magnetism. Pick it up and you'll see" Deucalion said
Josh picked the mask up and we could hear electricity lightly buzzing.
"What is this thing?" Josh said
"Product of genius and madness. Two traits too often found in the same mind. The man who created the first was known only as The Surgeon...A Dread Doctor. Using practices in the farthest edges of pseudoscience, he harnessed electromagnetic fields in the masks...infusing them with a unique and deadly power." Deucalion said
Josh brought the mask slowly up to his face and was about to put it on but threw it on the table.
"I'm not putting this thing on. You want to know who it is? Do it yourself." He said then leaned against the wall.
Tracy went over to a shelf and grabbed the jar of talons, putting them on the table.
"What about these?" She said
"They're useless if we don't know who it is." I said
"Actually, they're just useless. Didn't Hayden mention that? Where is she, by the way? I hope her moment of dissent didn't turn into actual desertion. What about the other one? Cory? None of us can see him, blind or otherwise. So, I'm guessing he's not here either." Deucalion said
"I'm leaving" Josh said walking away but Tracy stood in front of him.
"Oh, there goes another. Your circle of trust is narrowing for you." Deucalion said
"Your voice is getting on my nerves. Paralyze his tongue." I said
"You got it" Tracy said pulling her claws out.
"Tell me something, Tracy. Just how powerless were you before this all happened? In my experience, it's the truly powerless who are all too eager to demonstrate their new found strength. So allow me to demonstrate something more helpful to our cause. Trust..." Deucalion said
He started to stand up and I looked over to him tensing up.
"I told you I wanted Scott McCall's eyes and Skylar dead. That's why I let you take me." He said and pulled the tube out of his arm and threw it on the ground. "Though I have been a willing guest this entire time." He continued.
"Okay. What now?" I said
"I teach you what you've been so desperate to learn." He said
He then shoved me against the wall and broke my wrist. I let a scream out in pain and look to him.
"Feel that, Theo? That's the secret to taking power. Pain. Take their pain, take their life, take their power. It's all or nothing." He said pushing me to the ground. "You take until there's nothing more to give." He continued and I snapped my bone back to place. "That's where you find the spark of power. And then, you take that as well. Pain. Life. Power. In that order and only that order. Do you understand?" He said
