Kira's pov
I'm out in a desert in New Mexico. The fox is getting stronger within me and I need to find a way to get control. That's why I'm here. My mother brought be to the skin walkers...these women are powerful shapeshifters. They live underground and right now I'm surrounded by four of them. They all grab their spears and I look to my mom.
"Kira, grab your sword" she said
I grab my sword and that's when it starts. I'm fighting against them and I'm trying to stay under control. It's four against one and I'm doing pretty well until one knocks my sword out of my hand. She kicks me back and I hit a huge rock. One grabs her spear and throws it and it lands in my shoulder and I groan in pain. They all walk over to me and I see my mom run over.
"She's frightened. But she's not frightened of us." One said
"Of herself" the other said
"Can you help her?" My mom said
"We can try" one responded.
"If not, she stays" another said
"What...what does that mean?" I said
"If we can't help you, you'll stay and become one of us. A skin walker. You'll walk with us under the sun through the dust. Forever" one said
They pulled the spear out of me and I fell to the ground. This has to work.
One of them grabs onto me and takes me into a cave and I sit down. She wraps my arm up with something and looks to me.
"This will speed the healing." She said
"You could've just not thrown a spear into me" I said
"You had a sword. You could have used it" she said
"I thought I did" I said
"You were afraid to use the sword. I showed you I wasn't afraid to use the spear." She said then got up and left.
I move over and lean against a wall and my mom walks over to me and kneels in front of me.
"What happens now?" I said
"They're going to test you. Tonight. It's not going to be easy" she said
"Have they mentioned anything about fixing me?" I said
"They have their methods. It takes time." She said
"How much time? Days?" I said
"Months or years" she said
"Are you kidding?" I said
"Don't think I take this lightly, Kira" she said
"Mom, years?" I said getting upset.
"You're a kitsune. You have centuries" she said
"What about my friends? What about Scott?" I said
"If this part of you becomes too powerful, it will consume you. Do you understand what that means? You won't even exist anymore." She said
"So this is it? This is all I've got? I pass their test and then I can spend a couple months, or if I'm really lucky, years, learning from a couple of crazy, half-naked women carrying spears and wearing animals pelts." I said
