Chapter 30

We made it back to California just in time for the concert.
"We're going to be fashionably late." I said as we parked in the parking lot noticing people dancing around while a band was playing on stage.
"That means we need to make a big entrance." Tanner said getting out as I got out too.
We walked up handing the guy in the front our tickets we printed off online a couple days ago.
We walked in slowly at first. Tanner began to lead.
"WHUDDUP BITCHES. THE PARTY IS HERE." He said said as no one looked continuing to dance.
"Your big entrance was a fail." I said walking by him laughing.
We got up closer to the front towards our seats.
The place was blasting with music and Tanner and I began to dance around. And for that moment we weren't thinking about how we were going to be apart soon, how I'm losing the love of my life, all we could think about was that moment. It's like it was just us. I wish it could always be like this, I was so stuck in the moment I didn't even realize how late it was really getting.
The concert was coming to an end and people were starting to exit. I looked at Tanner sadly.
"No, no. The night can't be over." I shook my head. "You can't leave tomorrow."
"Mia..." Tanner put his arm around me.
"No Tanner it can't be over, do you not understand? I can't go to sleep. I don't wanna close my eyes or I'm afraid I'll lose you.." I said as tears began to fall from my face.
"Listen Mia, I'll be here all day tomorrow. My plane doesn't leave till 8 pm." He said wiping my tears.
I wrapped my arm around him as we walked to the car. I began to feel broken.
The car ride home was silent, Tanner had a hold of my hand the whole way back to my house.
"You're staying the night. It's our last night." I said looking over at him as if he had no choice.
"Yes ma'am." He chuckled trying to lighten the mood.
We got out and headed to my room. I laid down in my bed exhausted.
"I still don't want to close my eyes." I said pulling Tanner down next to me. "I don't want this night to be over, our last night together."
"Shh it's okay Mia, I'm right here always. Close your eyes." He said grabbing a hold of me.
I looked up at him with a frown.
"Close them." He repeated.
I looked back down grabbing onto the necklace Tanner got me for my birthday and holding it tight. I slowly shut my eyes as sleep took over me.
I felt cold, and laid out. I peaked my eyes open seeing that it was morning already. I looked over to see no Tanner. I quickly sat up.
"Tanner?" I looked around. "TANNER." I began to call out.
My door began to open and Tanner stepped in.
"Sorry baby. I had to go back home this morning and I didn't wanna wake you back up while coming back in so I played video games with your brother for the last time." He said walking over to the bed.
"Why did you need to go back home?" I asked.
"Summer bucket list, hello? It's the last day, you know what that means." He pulled out his camera.
"HEY GUYS THIS IS MY FIRST VLOG!! Now this is crazy but my beautiful girlfriend pushed me to do it and here we are." He smiled pointing the camera at me as I turned away.
"Tanner no." I giggled hiding "I look awful this morning."
"You're beautiful." He said moving the pillow from my face.
"I'm sure no one wants to see a goblin on your first video." I brushed the hair off my face.
"Oh shut up." He laughed getting on the bed.
"So whats the plan baby?"
"I have no idea." I shook my head.
"I say we go to our spot and play with the fish again." He laughed.
"Alright let's do it." I said getting up.
Tanner began to explain what the hell he was talking about with the fishes and our spot for the viewers who didn't know while I picked out an outfit.
"Alright let's go." I said brushing my hair a little and slipping my shoes on.
"That was fast." He said getting up.
"I don't want to spend a moment without you." I said opening the door and walking downstairs as he followed.
We drove over to our spot blast some old songs we use to listen to on the way to our spot and taking turns singing them.
We finally made it and Tanner parked getting out and pressing record on his camera.
"If you guys didn't notice this is the only reason I love my boyfriend." I said leaning over the hood of his car.
"Hey" he frowned.
"I'm kidding I love you very much" I walked up to him.
"No I meant hey as in get off my car you'll dent the hood." He joked.
"Shut up." I giggled.
I walked over to the edge of the cliff.
"What if I just pushed you in right now?" Tanner asked as I turned around.
"You'd be going to your dads girlfriendless." I joked.
"Ouch." He chuckled.
"I couldn't do that." I shook my head.
"You couldn't go through life without me." Tanner said cocky.
"Bet." I said walking away down the side of the cliff. "Hey Tanner." I turned around.
"Yeah?" He waited.
"Okay I might need you but just to help me down this." I waited.
He began to laugh turning off his camera and helping me all the way down.
"Alright guys we FINALLY made it down to ocean part. This is where Mia and I played with the fishes and it was fun. See watch this." Tanner said picking up a stick and poking one of the sea creatures with it as it started to poop.
We both began to laugh watching a long string come out of the sea creature.
We walked back up the rocks after a while and headed towards in and out burger to eat lunch.
I turned around while we were in line.
"Tanner I still don't know if I want fries or guys." I joked.
"As I said, stick with the fries baby." He patted my back.
I laughed and stepped up in line to order. We got our food and sat down.
"Hey this reminds me of Wyatt's and Corey's food fight.. you can vlog saying goodbye to them. We should see them before you go." I suggested.
"Yeah, we can meet up after lunch." Tanner said pulling out his phone frantically texting.
"Alright, well they all agreed. That was fast." Tanner sat down his phone.
"Wait.. do you guys have a group chat?" I asked.
"Maybe.." he looked away stuffing a fry in his mouth.
"TANNER!!! You didn't even like Dylan at first not fair." I crossed my arms.
"So fair, we're all guys. It would be weird having one girl." He said biting into his burger.
"Uh add Daniella.." I suggested.
"Wow two girls, such a big change." He said sarcastically.
We finished up heading over to Dylan's house because they all planned on meeting there.
We rang the doorbell and waited Dylan opened the door.
"HEY- what are you doing?" He asked Tanner.
"Vlogging. I started YouTube." Tanner smiled.
"That sounds like fun." He said looking at Tanners camera in excitement.
"I thought I would vlog my goodbye." Tanner shrugged.
"Good idea." Dylan nodded.
"Hey." Corey popped around the corner with a smirk.
"That's embarrassing." Capron said pushing past him.
"Agreed." Beau said.
"I missed you guys." I smiled.
"Me the most though right?" Corey asked with a smirk.
"Hey watch it." Tanner said.
"Hey bro you'll be gone." Corey put his hands up.
"And nothing will be happening because Mia is not interested." Capron assured him.
"Rip." Wyatt laughed.
"You guys." Danny shook his head.
"At least he tried." Tyler shrugged.
"True. Props." Maverick agreed.
The doorbell rang.
"Jake is here." Dylan said opening the door.
"Ja- what's wrong?" Dylan asked.
"Daniella and I broke up." He stepped in.
"What? Why?" I interrupted.
"Because she was fed up with my bullshit apparently." He rolled his eyes. "I don't even know what she means by that."
I pulled out my phone texting Daniella.
'M: heard what happened.. you ok? Wanna talk about it?'
I sat my phone down just when I got an immediate response.
'D: No! It's okay, I'll talk later I'm not feeling good! :('
'M: aw! Okay feel better, hang soon? You have a lot to tell me!!'
'D: I know I know! For sure :)'
I put down my phone walking over to Tanner as he started to vlog. We all began to mess around but shit got too wild.
"Alright let's move this to the backyard." Dylan suggested noticing the dumbasses cough cough Corey and Wyatt cough cough were breaking stuff.
We all hung out in the back for a while just talking. Beau pulled me a side to talk for a while.
"So, ya gonna miss him?" He asked with a nudge.
I slowly nodded my head looking over at him laughing with the boys "for sure" I sighed.
"I'm sorry kid. That must suck losing someone you love." He shrugged.
"Have you ever loved someone?" I asked.
"Nope.. but it would be cool." He said.
I began to chuckle at 'cool' "it is."
It became close to five and we decided to leave. Tanner gave everyone their last goodbye hug.
"Hey if you ever need company don't hesitate to ask us to hang." Dylan smiled.
"For sure." I smiled hugging him.
Tanner and I left back to his house he plugged his camera into the computer uploading the footage. I sat there and watch him edit the video and put it together. He showed me the final product. I began to smile. Tanner put it up on YouTube with no hesitation.
"It's so great Tanner." I hugged him.
"Well I tried." He shrugged.
"Tanner it's 6:30. Are you ready to go?" His mom asked from the door.
"Almost." He said sadly.
He picked a couple things up shoving it into the suitcase really quick including his camera and computer.
Tanner and I walked out of his room.
"I'll miss you soooo much." His mother said hugging him. "And Mia, we can hang sometime soon." She hugged me with a smile.
"Yeah." I said attempting to smile but I just couldn't right now.
"Be careful baby, and don't miss your flight!" She said as we walked out the door.
"This is it.." tanner began to walk over to his car. He opened the trunk putting his stuff in.
"I can't believe it." I shook my head.
We got in silent. I couldn't even breathe. I felt sick to my stomach. Tanner held onto my hand tightly. With my other hand I began to nervously play with my necklace.
We got out and Tanner grabbed his suitcase.
We walked into the airport and it began to hit my hard. I grabbed onto Tanners hand.
"Don't leave me." I begged "please."
"Mia.. I'll be back." He stopped to look at me "I promise."
"I can't do it without you Tanner." I shook my head.
"Try. For me." He said and then continued to walk. We approached security, which I couldn't go pass sense I didn't have a flight.
"Tanner please." I said as tears fell down my face "I love you."
"I love you too Mia. So much. I have to go. But I want you to know that I don't regret anything that happened this summer. Falling in love with you was the best decision I have ever made in my life, I wouldn't be who I am today without you. So thanks. and I definitely wouldn't trade you for anyone or anything. You can't put a price on any of our memories I will never forget you Mia Mercy. You mean the absolute world to me... Now I'm going to make things easy.. close your eyes Mia."
"Tanner I-" I began.
"No, close your eyes Mia." He waited.
I grabbed onto the necklace closing my eyes. It began to grow quiet. I felt relaxed, I felt as if I was in Tanners arms again.
I opened my eyes to see no Tanner in front of me. The world began to come back around me the chatter grew loud and the peace became panic. I looked around frantically to see Tanner in line for security. He wouldn't even look back.
I felt my heart began to break slowly. I walked out of the airport sitting on the curb and calling my mother in tears to come pick me up. She showed up in no time.
I didn't talk to anyone for the rest of the night I went to bed feeling broken, I couldn't even cry I cried so much that night I felt like I had none in me. I began to shut my eyes as sleep finally took over me.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I peaked my eyes opening seeing it's was morning and the first day of school.
I walked down stairs to smell pancakes.
"Mom.." I walked into the kitchen.
"Hi sweetie." She smiled flipping a pancake.
"Can I stay home today?" I asked.
"You are not missing your first day of school. Now go upstairs and get ready you have half an hour." She demanded.
I rolled my eyes having nothing left in me to argue so I went upstairs throwing something on. I didn't even care how I looked. I slipped on my shoes then walked back down.
"That was fifteen minutes." She said putting plate in front of me.
I shrugged and began to eat.
"You'll be fine baby. Just get through this day and you'll see." She smiled rubbing my back.
I shook my head and continued to eat.
"Alright mom, I'm out." I said grabbing my bag and walking out.
"Okay! Love you have a good day!" She called after me.
I walked out and to my car throwing my bag in and getting in. I pulled out heading to school. I started to play music but every song reminded me of Tanner so I just turned off the radio. I finally made it to the school pulling into a parking spot and getting on my phone for a bit. I always do this before school, I check my social media before going in. Nothing interesting was on there so I got out reaching back in for my bag.
"Yanno.. I thought how could it be the perfect summer without completing the list."
I turned around hearing a familiar voice only to see Tanner.
"TANNER." I yelled running up to him and hugging him. "HOW?"
"Well, I got on my plane looked at the list and checked when the next flight was and there's one today at 8am so I thought I would stop by really quick to walk you into school." He smiled.
"It's 7:30.." I said looking at the time.
"That's why we better hurry." He said grabbing my hand.
I shut the car door and threw my bag onto my back holding onto Tanners hand tightly. We walked in instantly being starred down. This is what I wanted, for so long. I instantly began to be filled with happiness.
We stopped at my locker to put my things in there and to get my books for my first block.
He walked me to my class and we stopped in front of it. He pulled a pen out of his back pocket clicking it and checking off the walking into school together box. He handed me the list and pen looking at me. "This is the actual goodbye now..."
I began to frown "I love you."
"I know." Tanner looked into my eyes.
He grabbed my hand one last time then let go walking away. I watched him walk all the way out not looking back once.
I walked into the class with my head down.
Instantly getting a text from Tanner.
'T: I love you too.'
I smiled.
'M: stay in touch?'
'T: I'll never be able to stop texting you..'
Except he was able to...
It's been two years since I've heard from Tanner..
