He looked at Jamie as if she were crazy then he stood up straight, chuckling.
"Haha... That's funny... Now, why is she really here? Some inspection on behalf of her father?" He asked, wiping one of his eyes. Jamie sighed.
"Just as Jamie said. I met Jamie yesterday and her mom wanted to get to know me so I came over for dinner and ended up spending the night." I said, standing right next to Jamie now. His eyes widened again only a little bit this time.
"Shoot... You're the girl Mia was talking about... Right? Black laced dress that you were wearing last night--wait where'd it go?" He started looking around and Jamie chuckled.
"Yes, that's her. And it's in my room. You don't expect her to sleep in a dress, do you? Especially one that's a bit poofy and lace." He looked back at her and smiled.
"I guess you're right... I will admit, little sad that your mate is a girl... But it's fine." Jamie smiled and hugged him and I smiled too. When they pulled away he looked like he just remembered something.
"Oh, I'm Johnathan by the way. But you can call me John if you would like. I'm assuming Mia said to call her ma?" We shook hands while he talked and I nodded. "Well, I'll let you girls go. See ya later Jamie." He kissed the top of Jamie's head and went to eat and Jamie replied 'Yup' as we left to Jamie's room. We got to Jamie's room when I got a mind-link.
"Come home." My father's voice filled my head and I was curious and surprised as to why I couldn't detect any emotion in his voice.
"Um okay." I mind-linked back, confusion in it.
"Gotta go, my dad wants me," I said. Jamie turned to me with slight fear in her eyes. "Wanna come?" I asked Jamie hoping she would. She smiled at me then nodded, the fear gone from her eyes. I changed back into my dress since I knew I'd change into different clothes at home and Jamie changed into a simple T-shirt and black jeans. Then we left to my house.
~Time skip~
"I'm home!" I called out through the house. There was silence.
"Maybe no one's home?" Jamie said, clearly hopeful.
"Just a sec," I said.
"Where's dad?" I mind-linked mom.
"Backyard, why?"
"No reason." I mind-linked. "Backyard, come on," I told Jamie. She nodded and we made our way through the house to the backyard. I opened the back door and saw dad facing the wall sitting in a chair.
"You wanted to see me?..." I asked him, already nervous about it.
"Yes, I did. Although I'd prefer alone." He said, and I saw him in the corner of his eye glaring at Jamie. I stepping in front of her defensively, hiding her from my father's view.
"No. You didn't specify in the link alone or not, and she's here. So don't you dare say alone like that now and glare at her. What I hear, she hears. Go on." I said, standing up to dad for Jamie. He stopped looking at us in the corner of his eye and stood up.
"Why." I was confused but didn't get out of my barely noticeable defensive stance.
"Huh?" I asked. He looked at me and I could've sworn he looked pained a little. My heart broke a little at that look.
"I know you haven't known each other long, but why didn't you tell me you found your mate sooner?" My mouth made an "o" and I understood and my shoulders slumped.
