We left dad's office and went back to where we left Alice and Jamie, but they weren't there. We heard Alice from the kitchen yell toward us, "Hey! We're in the kitchen!" We headed towards the kitchen and they were on the stools sitting at the island. I smiled at Jamie and she understood what I meant so she smiled in return.

"So, Jamie, how about you tell us about yourself while I make some hot chocolate?" My mom asked. Jamie nodded. My mom started to make hot chocolate while Jamie told us about herself.

"Well, as you know, my name's Jamie Lockwood-- Oh wait, how old are you guys?" Jamie asked Alice and I. I understood why, some mates will be as far apart in age as 5-6 years.

"17" Alice and I said in sync. Alice and I were the same age, just she was older by a month, Jamie smiled a little more. I'm assuming we were around the same age. (Mine and Alice's birthday have already passed. Hers is April 25th while mine is May 29th. Today is November 15th.)

"Well, I turned 17 about 3 weeks ago, October 29th. So we're all the same age. Well, my favorite colors are yellow and blue, I'm actually really shy when meeting new people, but I guess not you two, and I love to read." Jamie said. I thought it was interesting that one of her favorite colors were the colors of my eyes.

"Hey what's with all the noise-- who's this?" Kaleb asked, entering the kitchen and stopping a couple steps in, looking confused at Jamie. Jamie seemed to just freeze as soon as his eyes looked her way.

"Oh, this is Jamie dear. She's... Kalevala's... new... friend." My mom said, thinking of it as she said it so she didn't have to say we were mates. Since Kaleb and I are twins, I wouldn't be surprised if he felt at least 1% of the mate bond since him and I are super close. Kaleb just looked at Jamie confused then shrugged while walking away. Yup, he felt a bit. But he was probably confused because he knows when you meet your mate you don't just feel the tiniest spark. I could say that much. But I know that's all Kaleb felt, if he did feel anything. Jamie breathed out when Kaleb was out of sight.

"Well, clearly we'll need to change that. I mean, you don't go as the Beta's daughter's mate and also being a girl unnoticed. When people find out, you can't be as shy as you are now. I mean, you can still be shy, just not to where you instantly freeze and hold your breath, maybe even without being aware you are." I said, smiling. I knew she knew I found her shyness cute, that's why I didn't want it completely gone. My mom handed us mugs that had hot chocolate in them with mini marshmallows on the top. I grabbed mine and blew on it before taking a sip.

"So, what about you're family? You didn't mention them." My mom asked while sitting down between me and Alice. Then she just realized she might've been prodding when Jamie looked at her hands, holding the warm mug. "Oh, I'm sorry. Never mind. You don't have to say." She apologized. Jamie shook her head lightly.

"No, it's okay. Well, for a while my mother was the omega of the pack, but she trained hard and got stronger. That was when she met my dad and she was about our age. I have an older brother, but since he found his mate he doesn't visit often..." Jamie said. I put my hand on her left hand since she was on my right. She looked at me and her eyes softened. Not going to lie when I say I could melt in her touch. But hey, it was the mate bond. If we weren't mates, I wouldn't feel this way and she wouldn't feel the way she does about me. She looked at what I thought was her mug then she sighed. "My mom is worried about me. I have to go home." I nodded. We all stood up and I ran to the pantry, grabbed a foam cup, poured her hot chocolate into it, and put a top on it. I ran back to everyone else and handed her it.

"It's good, trust me." I smiled. We hugged then I opened the front door for her and we said goodbye then she left. As soon as the door was closed my mom turned me to face her and hugged me tightly. "Can't... Breathe..." I said, not being able to breathe, well, because of how tight she was hugging me. She pulled out of the hug but her hands stayed on my shoulders. I sucked in air because, well, I couldn't breathe. I will never take breathing for granted again.
