The whispers behinds hands
The quick looks away
The cruel laughter as I enter a room
People think I don't know
People think I don't see
But I know, I saw.
The murmured looks of hatred
The chatter of disgust
The vengeful eyes that follow me
People make sure I know
People make sure I see
So. I know, I saw
The sympathy smiles
The tentative touches
The empathetic eyes that follow an "I'm fine."
People think I don't know
People think I don't see
I know, I sawThe meagerness of pity
The stupidity of the mundane
The twisted hands of anxious conversation
People think I don't know
People think I don't see
I know, I saw
The lies laced in guilt
The harshness of ragged sobs
The pounding feet of fear
People think I don't know
People think I don't see
I know, I saw
The slamming of the front door
The storming up the stairs
The desperate rush to be free
People don't know
People don't see
But they will know, they will see
The trembling fingers
The tied up rope
The heartbroken scream from a heartbroken mother
People think I don't know anymore
People think I don't see anymore
But I know, I saw
The days that pass
The hung heads & sad smiles
The racked sobs of despair & hopelessness
People think I didn't know
People think I didn't see
But I know, I saw
The soft lining & red satin edges
The tears & comfort to those who need it
The plentiful flowers that will never be enough to fill my gap
People didn't know
People didn't see
Now they know, now they see.
