Chapter 2
Another useless day.
When I wasn't focused on what happened with Ryan, I worked.
On anything I could find.
Housework.
Homework.
Yard work.
Anything I could find. I ended up reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. But then I realized that that was also, a love story.
How could I get Ryan off my mind? I ended up giving up to the temptation. I called his house. On the third ring, I heard someone pick up.
"Hello?"
"Um.." remembering my manners, I quickly healed. "Hi, it's Chayna. Could I talk to Ryan?"
"Hold on, I'll check." I heard a click and almost immediately assumed that they had hung up.
"Hello?" It was Ryan's voice this time
"Uh, Hi it's Chayna."
"Oh, hey!" he seemed somewhat pleased.
"So, yea I was just calling to... you know, just thank you again for the present you gave me." I nervously looked down at the lavender C around my neck.
"It was no problem! Did you want to come over?"
"Um..."
"You don't have to!" he said sheepishly.
Gosh. I wanted to. "No! I'd love to come over!" What was I thinking? I had work today.
"Don't you have work?" He was always one step ahead of me.
"Uh, yea but I don't have my shift until later."
"Okay, so when do you want to come over?" He asked eagerly. This was seriously freaking me out.
"Whenever you say."
"How about four? It's already 1:30 so why not just come sooner and you can stay for dinner!"
"I'll have to ask my mom.." I responded sheepishly.
"I'll have my mom ask your mom if that's okay."
"Oh, sure! sounds like a plan."
"I'll text you when I see what's you going on." I didn't even know he had my number.
"Oh," I hope he couldn't hear my blushing through the phone. "talk to you later Ryan."
"See you, Chayna."
Click. He was gone. I didn't know that he'd want me over. Maybe he had the wrong number. I wasn't anybody looked at twice. I had long brown hair, green eyes, and I was short. I mean, he was like a skyscraper! Why would he want me over? Later in the day I got a text from Ryan saying:
IT'S SET! SEE YOU AT FOUR!
Of course, my genius reply was:
OKAY, SEE YOU SOON!
I really couldn't wait until I got to Ryan's. Since I was now 18, I was allowed to get my car. But, I already had it because my dad works at the police station. Not that I knew how he got the car for me.
I got into the car, and put the keys into the ignition. I started to drive away, and realized I didn't have a coat. I mean it wasn't cold in September, but it wasn't warm either.
While I pushed that thought from mind, I focused on the directions to Ryan's house. He lived in a fancy new neighborhood, while we lived in a small little house with four people. Ryan was an only child and still had a big house. But size doesn't matter, Chayna. My subconscious echoed to my brain. I hated when I was right.
When I finally pulled into his driveway, I saw Ryan standing in the glass door frame.
"Hey Chayna!" He exclaimed when he saw me.
"Hey Ryan." I've always been shy. Even with Ryan.
"So, what do you want to do?" He asked me when I was just walking in.
"Um, anything. I don't mind."
"How about a movie?" He blushed when he said that.
"At your house?" I was..confused.
"Um...no. Downtown or something." He looked away.
A DATE?!
"Why not? Sounds like fun Ryan." He looked relieved when I said this.
"Phew. Okay. We can go in like 5 minutes. I have to grab something."
I had a date with Ryan James.
