Chapter 15

Fintan?

"What are you doing here, Fintan?" I snarled.

"What does it look like? I'm going to run this interrogation for you. I wanted to know what was going on before, you wouldn't tell me. So, I found my own way," he replied bitterly.

"It's really none of your business."

"It is now," he said as he slid into the chair across from me.

"I'm serious, Fintan. Get out," I hissed under my breath.

"Nope. Not a chance," he announced.

"Fine then! Your obviously not going to leave, I'm tied up to this stinking chair, and I'm not getting out anytime soon. Ask away!" I yelled.

"Okay," he replied, looking all smug all of a sudden. "When did you encounter Ryan other than at school?"

"Come on. Even you know this one. He was at my party."

"Other than at your party."

"Fine. The day after the party."

"Vague much?" He pushed.

"I called him to thank him for his gift, then he invited me over."

"Did you accept?"

"YES."

"Next question. Where did he take you?"

"First to a movie, then out to eat. Then I passed out."

"Do you know why?" He asked.

"No," I replied. Thinking about it now, I passed out for no reason. I though that it was from pure pressure.

"Okay, you're really dumb."

"Excuse me? You came to ask questions, not insult me."

"Don't talk to me like that. I'm in charge."

"That's not what ink said," I blurted.

"Honey, what he knows is confidential. It's not exactly show and tell when you ask him those things."

"Fintan, you're just mad because I dumped you. And 'nobody' dumps you, huh? You just can't get over the fact that me, a short, little 18 year old girl, dumped you. It's sad, but believable. Just get over it, okay?" I retorted.

"Okay, you obviously don't know anything. You fainted because the worker at the food place put some fast working sleep medicine in your drink. You stayed at your house because, if we took you to a hospital they would have to take a blood sample, and then find traces of the medicine in your blood."

"Why would you want me to faint?"

"We had to get to Ryan someway."

"Why? Ryan hasn't hurt anyone."

"That's what you think. He's a lot more dangerous then you think."

"They told me that he wasn't from this society. I'm aware. That doesn't change anything about how I feel towards him."

"Ah, but they weren't telling the truth. Confidential, remember? He wasn't found from out there, Chayna. He...Well..."

"He what?" I instantly felt bad for some reason.

"I can't tell you, Chayna. You may not care for me, but I still care for you. I can't tell you this. It isn't right," Fintan looked at me with soft eyes.

I stared back in disbelief. Fintan. Caring for me? Maybe he wasn't such a jerk. Or maybe he still was. "Can't you tell me?" I pleaded.

"No. I feel like it might hurt you."

"Forget about me! I don't need any of this! What happened?!" I screamed.

"Chayna, he's part of a gang."

I snorted. "Fintan, he's not a gang member, quit it."

"Chayna, yes he is! Your dad is a policeman, think about it, they work on all type of secret labs there. Your mom is always worried right?" I only nodded my head. "She doesn't want him to get hurt, don't you see? Ryan's gang wants one of the secret labs they're working on. How else would he get to it, possibly through his eldest daughter, his own age!"

"Fintan..." I trailed off, fighting back tears. He only wanted a secret lab, not me? He said he loved me. He was always worried about my dad. His motorcycle? Duh.

"Chayna, I didn't want to tell you. You deserve the truth, and so much better. I had to be a jerk or Ryan would expect something."

"Is he from here?" I asked, nervously.

"Yes, except gang members don't have Pairs, normally. He was always gone after school, gang meetings. Think about it. Okay? I'm sorry I had to tell you this way. I'm so sorry." He got up and left, without anything else to be said. Ink poked his head in from the door.

"I'm real sorry, Chayna," he said, through his southern accent and his thick voice.

"It's not your fault, ink," I whispered.

"We have to call Ryan's phone now."

This time I looked up. "Why?"

"To tell him that we have you, so he can come and we can finally get him."

"Okay, please lets make it fast," I pleaded.

"Lets do this."

Ring. Ring. Ring.

"Hello?" Ryan's voice came through the phone, which was on speaker so ink could hear it.

"Ryan," I croaked out.

"Chayna! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Come and get me?"

"Of course. Where are you?" Ink scribbled a address on a piece of paper and I read it back to Ryan.

"I'm coming, don't worry I'll get you back, Chayna. I love you, okay? I'll see you soon," he said, waiting for a response. Ink gestured for me to answer Ryan.

"Whatever. Bye." I snapped the phone shut. I heard Ryan say;

"What?" before I snapped the phone shut. I was done playing games with him. He broke my heart, now it was time I got to break his.

"Hey, ink?" I asked.

"Yea?"

"Who is holding Ryan's interrogation when he comes?"

"It was supposed to be Fintan, why?"

"Change it," I demanded. "I'm holding his interrogation."

Ryan was going to regret playing with my heart.
