Chapter 14

I woke up with a sudden thud against the cave roof. It was raining like buckets of water were being dumped from above. It was pitch black outside and I didn't want to wake Ryan, so I was going really slow so that I wouldn't trip over anything.

I decided that I would go look for berries or something, because let's face it, I was hungry. I looked under my cot, and what do you know, pitch black. I felt around anyway, and felt cold metal in my palm. I held in up and it was a..

gun.

I screamed and dropped it. Nevertheless, Ryan just fumbled on the floor but then he went straight back to sleep. I let a sigh of relief. I hesitantly felt around under the cot again, and pulled out a flashlight. Thank gosh. And with that, I walked out of the cave and turned on the flashlight. I shined it on the trees, the grass, and some night critters. I took a couple steps further and heard leaves crunching. Calm down, Chayna. It's just the night critters. my inner voice said. Okay, I'm okay. I kept reassuring myself that as I went deeper into the forest. I thought maybe the bushes would be further back, so I started to wonder.

There was all types of animals that I had never seen. Some even glowed in the dark. I saw a what looked a dog with antlers that lit up. I heard another crunch and turned around. Bugs. Everywhere. That were lit up. A yellow-white light were glowing from all over the body of the bug. Another crunch. A small delicate creature that tail lit up. Small, like I said before, like it could crawl up a tree. It was magnificent. Every single creature was different from one another. "This is the most gorgeous sight..." I talked to myself.

A creature the size of my pinkie nail landed on my nose. It had wings that were outlined in a purple glow. I watched at it willingly between my crossed eyes. It had little antennas that were green. The slim, tiny body it had was not lit up. I glanced away, getting lightheaded from crossing my eyes to look at the creature. Crunch. I turned around with hope to find some new, interesting creature waiting for me. But hope and luck were in a different category. There was nothing there.

"Hello?" I asked, nervously.

Crunch.

"Helllooooo?" I asked again, making it more obvious.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch

"If anyone is out of there, could you please reply?" I asked, for the third time, quieter.

"Hello darling," a low, make voice said.

I turned around. "G-go away," I pleaded, stuttering.

"Now, why would I want to do that? I think I want you to come with me. Boss's order, princess."

"What?" I squealed just before a rough pair of hands grabbed me and hauled me over his shoulder. I had to get away. Why did I have to look for some stupid berries? I was doing it for Ryan.

"Keep still, would you?" He forced, and I obviously wasn't trying hard enough. I stared to kick.

"I have to get back to him!" Shoot. I did not just say that out loud. I shouldn't have said anything. I didn't want Ryan to get hurt.

"Him? Aw, how sweet. Your Pair is back there."

"No! Not my Pair! My boyfriend."

He stopped dead in his tracks. "You don't have a Pair?"

"Oh, I had a Pair, if that's what you mean."

"Chayna," he growled.

"Don't even call me-" I stopped dead in my tracks realizing that he just said my name. The name I didn't tell the unfamiliar man.
