Jefferson walked north east from the tree where he and Jameson were watching over young Joline. He need to go off on his own for a little while. He couldn't believe half of what he had been told by his mentor. He wondered if this ability of hers would make her prone to darkness? Would she be more inclined to self distructive behaviors? Would she figure out that she could see in other realities besides this physical one? If he were still alive he'd have had a migraine or a stiff drink by now. He was a spirit guide, so now all he had were his thoughts and the one thing living mortals didn't, a lot of time to do nothing but think and watch over the poor girl. He was half afraid that she'd wind up in an asylum.
Her ability was one very few mortals could deal with. not many of them could handle much outside of their own reality. Some could, a few would assume they had fallen to the classification of insanity. There were always some that would obsess over the other dimensions, like the spirit realm. There were times this knowledge did more harm than anything else, like throwing them off the course of their life, their destiny threatened, messed up or at times non existent.
He worried over his mortal charge as he walked for hours, trying to figure out how to help her. Dealing with one plane of existence was frustrating enough, let alone several of them at the same time. If he'd have had that sort of a gift when he was alive, it would have surely driven him beyond crazy. He didn't know how Joline would handle it when or if she figures it out. He walked through the small town until he reached the edge of the bridge to the next county before turning around. He needed to go back. If not to ease Jameson's mind, then to make sure his mortal hadn't had anything else out of the ordinary happen to her with out him there to keep her safe.
He knew Jameson wouldn't let harm come to her, but still he needed to get back to his work as a spirit guide. He was there to help her, not run from his duties. He just hated that he was supposed to just watch. It was aggravating to never be able to talk to her or even make his presance known. He watched children playing in the distance, birds flying high above and other creatures running around. He knew they couldn't see or hear him, but he liked seeing different people enjoy the life they had been given.
It brought him a sense of peace, a calming that only seeing good in this world could bring to him. He hurried along, just in case his mentor may be called away for a number of reasons. If Jameson did get called to check on another mortal it wasn't like they would give him a few days or even hours to prepare, he was to go right then and there. he last thing Jefferson wanted was to be responsible for his mortal to be left without anyone watching over the girl. She had a lot to handle with her special abilities kicking in, let alone the struggles of mundane life.
By the time he had made it back to the tree and his mentor it had become night fall. He climbed up to the middle of the large tree in Joline's back yard and sat next to the guide who trained him. He said nothing just sat there next to Jameson in silence. After ten minutes of this, the elder guide spoke first.
"How was your walk of reflection?" He asked, nearly attempting to be funny.
"Fine, is the girl okay?"
"Yes she's doing fine. Did you learn anything while you were gone?" Jameson asked.
"Patience, sir. That's all."
"Good, it's something you need to learn."
The two sat there in the tree watching over her as she fell into a restful sleep that night.
