The next week on Monday, India was at the pizza stand with her friends. Trevor wanted to go off campus to eat, but India didn’t. So they agreed to disagree and parted ways until school’s out. India moved further up the lunch with Robin and Brittney behind her.

“India, you gotta go to this party on Friday!” Robin exclaimed. She had been telling India about the event since Friday.

“Why?” India shrugged, not really interested.

“Becauseee…. Yo daddy’s out of town. And it’s gonna be live,” Robin pleaded. “Plus there’s going to be college guys there. You might be able to find, uh ... you know, an Upgrade.” She hinted to getting rid of Trevor.

“I don’t need a ‘upgrade’, because what I got is just fine,” India retorted.

Robin rolled her eyes. “All I’m sayin’ is, it’s going to be fun. And Me and Brittney going,” She persuaded. “It wouldn’t be the same without you.”

India finally reached the pizza stand and ordered two slices of cheese pizza. “I don’t know,” India replied. “If I’m going to go to a party, I at least want to know someone there. Plus you know how I feel bout stuff like that.”

Robin sucked her teeth, placing her hands on her hips. “India cut the church girl act okay. Plus um… hello, ‘we’ gon’ be there!”

“What about my paper that’s do?” India added, “How I’m going to get it done if I’m up all night?”

“We not gon spend the night or nothing. We going be to back by like one, maybe even twelve,” Robin answered, walking away from the pizza stand with India and Brittney.

India took a deep breath and sighed. “Fine. I guess I’ll go,” she surrendered. “But I’m inviting Trevor.”

“What ever girl,” Robin snapped. She glanced at Brittney. “She trynna’ bring sand to the beach.”

“I know right,” Brittney agreed. India ignored her comment, heading to the gym to when she saw James hanging with Jaden, Regina, and a few others. Her face scrunched in anger upon seeing Jaden wrapped in her ex-boyfriend’s arms. Even though she was over James, it still hit a tender spot to see him with a girl like Jaden. Not to mention that Jaden probably only hooked up with him to get at her.

James glanced up and saw India and her friends coming his way. He slowly let go of Jaden, but she was quick to lean back on him. “Uh… hey India,” James gave a weak and guilty smile as India walked by him.

“Hi,” she shot back. Her voice was calm, but her body language was just the opposite. ‘How could he get with Jaden? What was a slap to the face India thought. Still, India had moved on and was with Trevor now. So what James did no longer mattered to her; because she was happy with whom she has.

Later that day, India and Trevor were sitting in Trevor’s room with the TV on. He was drawing on a sketchbook while India watched her show. With pencil in hand, Trevor thought about what to add to the picture. What he worked on was a practice sketch for the picture he would need to create to enter the college he applied to. Creating a form of art was the second part of the application. After his artwork was finished, he would have to mail it to the school for review.

Trevor sighed as he began to erase the design he had drawn already. Nothing seemed to be working. Yeah the picture looked nice, but it wasn’t what he wanted, which was perfection. Plus he didn’t fully decide what to draw yet.

“Trev,” India said, catching his attention. She lowered the volume to the TV. “You work Friday?”

“Nope,” he replied, returning to his drawing.

“Well… You want to come to a party with me and some friends?” she offered.            “What?” Trevor asked; sounding conflicted.

“There’s a party on Friday, and I want you to go,” India explained. “It’s going to be at a frat house, some kids from school are going to be there too!” she added as many reason as she could to persuade Trevor, but the expression on his face said he wasn’t feeling it.

“I don’t ‘do’ parties,” Trevor replied. He went back to working on his picture.

“Come on Trev,” she pleaded, nudging his arm. “I don’t want to go by myself.”

Trevor didn’t even look her way. “I’m sure Robin, or one of yo otha’ lil homegirls will go with you.”

“Trevvv,” India whined. “Why you like that? So anti-fun.”

Trevor sucked his teeth. “If bein’ round a bunch of niggas you don’t know is fun; count me out. Besides, I thought you aint did parties anyway.”

“I made an exception,” India told him. “Plus Robin and Brittney ‘really’ want me to go.”

“See there. You aint gon’ be by yo self,” Trevor pointed out.

“What ever Trev,” India snapped, giving up her argument. She watched as her boyfriend shrugged his shoulders, showing her how little he actually cared. “I’ll just have to have fun without you.”

            “Aye, do you,” Trevor replied.
