Chapter 10

Sam walked into the apartment and threw her jacket onto the floor, sitting on the arm of the couch.

"Hey! I'm home. Kid?" Sam called out and smiled when she saw Cat run into the living room and hop on her lap, but she noticed something was off when she heard Cat sniffling.

"Hey, what's wrong? Look at me." Sam said and took Cat's chin, lifting her face up to look at her. Cat's eyes were puffy and red, but she smiled regardless because she was happy that Sam was home.

"Sam..." Cat trailed off and snuggled close to Sam's chest. Sam hugged her back and patted her hair. "What's up? You alright?" Sam asked.

Cat nodded and put her arms around Sam's neck. "I'm okay. How was your time with Freddie?" She asked. Sam shrugged and patted Cat's arm.

"It was cool. I had fun. How was your...time here?" Sam said, her eyebrows furrowing when she looked back down at Cat. "It's been better...Sam...?" Cat started to sniffle and Sam held her closer. "What is it?"

"Do you love me?" Cat asked, making Sam frown and look at her. "Well, yeah. Why would you ask that?" Sam asked and Cat let go of her. "Forget it, you wouldn't care." Cat looked away and got off of Sam's lap to walk into their bedroom.

Sam got up to follow her. She managed to grab Cat's wrist before she got to the room and pull her close. "What's going on with you? Why are you acting like this?" Sam yelled.

Cat managed to yank her arm away and make it to the bedroom, crawling under her bed. Sam stopped and looked down at Cat's bed. "Cat! Get out from under the bed and talk to me!" she screamed.

"Stop screaming! You're scaring me..." Cat retaliated and started to cry. Sam realized that she was scaring Cat, forgetting that she was sensitive.

Sam took a deep breath and sat down next to the bed. "Cat...I'm sorry. I was a little worked up, okay? Please just tell me what's wrong," she said quietly, placing her hand under the bed to touch Cat's hand.

Cat flinched and started to move away, but she let Sam touch her. Sam could feel her trembling, so she gently stroked Cat's hand with her thumb. Cat relaxed a little bit and Sam heard her sigh.

"I was here alone and I was wondering where you went. Then when you said you were with Freddie...I started to get a little...jealous." Cat said and crawled out from under the bed and curled up in Sam's arms, laying in her lap.

"Aw, kid. You don't have to be jealous of that nerd. He's my friend, not my boyfriend. Well, he's barely a friend. But he's getting there." Sam said and smiled at Cat. Cat looked up and smiled back.

"I'm sorry for being so moody, Sam. I just...I'm so scared of being alone." Cat said and got up to sit on her bed. Sam sat next to her and gently hit her arm. "Don't sweat it. I wouldn't dream of leaving you, BFFs; remember?" Sam said and smiled.

"Yeah, BFFs..." Cat trailed off, feeling herself frown slightly. Sam realized what she said and mentally kicked herself. Sam leaned over and kissed Cat's cheek.

"Sorry. Was that too much?" Sam asked and blushed, looking away. Cat smiled shyly and crawled back over to Sam. She hugged Sam and kissed her cheek, snuggling close to her again.

"I just wasn't expecting it, but I wouldn't mind another. You haven't kissed me in a while. I miss when we used to be close." Cat closed her eyes and tightened her grip on Sam's shirt.

They held each other and Sam placed her forehead on Cat's. A few minutes later, Sam's phone vibrated and she took it out of her pocket to check who it was from. The caller ID said Freddie, but she didn't want Cat to worry.

The phone vibrated more and Cat opened her eyes to look at Sam. "Aren't you going to answer it?" She asked. Sam kept eye contact with her and pulled her phone out to turn it off.

"Nope, it's all about you tonight. I can talk to The nerd later."

"Really?"

"Really."

"....Kk."

Cat smiled and gave Sam a peck on the nose, giggling and returning to her jolly innocent self.

Sam smiled back and kissed her forehead.
