Ring Ring!
"Ugh...what kind of idiot calls me at 3 a.m?" Sam fumbled for her phone in the dark, grumbling and swearing. She finally felt the phone, realizing it was under Cat. It vibrated and rang in a muffled frenzy when Cat adjusted herself to get closer to her. Sam sighed and lifted the sleeping girl up gently, finally getting the phone and answering it.
"Yeah, whaddaya want?" Sam asked in an irritated manner. "Hey Sam ," the voice said, sounding exhausted. Sam froze and slowly stepped out of the bed to walk onto the patio.
"What's going on Freddie? You usually don't call this late...or at all," Replied a concerned Sam. "I know, I know. I don't mean to be a bother; I was just wondering if I could, y'know just talk. I miss you and Carly. But, to be honest I miss you more," Freddie said, slightly hesitant in his words.
Sam blushed and smiled. "I, I missed you too." There was a silence on the phone between the two; the noise of nearby cars passing and the chirp of crickets. But it was a comfortable silence nonetheless.
"I was wondering if we could...start over," asked Freddie, his voice trembling in anxiousness. Sam smiled at the thought of them being together again, but she could never leave Cat. She felt so guilty in the pit of her stomach even though her heart felt light when she imagined giving her former boyfriend another chance.
"Sam?" A quiet, sleepy voice called out. "I'll be there in a minute, kid," Sam reassured the innocent voice from the other room. "I-it's cold and dark," the voice cried, the small girl sounded like she was going to break down into tears. "We can talk about this later. I have to go, Freddie," Sam said frankly. "Alright," the disappointed boy replied half heartedly.
Sam walked back into the bedroom and looked in both beds to find the small red-haired girl. "I'm down here," the voice called out quietly, almost a squeak and Cat's little head poked out from under the bed. "It's okay kid. I'm here for you," Sam picked Cat up and cradled her close.
Cat curled up closer to her blonde haired friend. "Even when you leave for the smallest time, I can't stand being away from you. I missed you so much, Sammy," Cat mumbled shyly and kissed the crook of Sam's neck. "I've only been out for a couple minutes," said Sam. Cat smiled and got into her bed. "I know but I still missed you. Who called?" she asked. "Freddie." Sam said blankly. "That's pretty early to call. What'd he need?" Cat sat up and tilted her head.
Sam sat on her own bed with her feet sticking out from the blanket. "Just a little time to catch up,"
