Chapter 9: Lessons
The next morning Barry woke up at seven o'clock. He didn’t move, just looked around the dormitory. Every dorm room is equipped with a centrally-located stove, and each student gets their own four poster bed, flanked by a set of windows and space for storing personal belongings. There was five boys total in the dormitory. Barry and Alec had befriended the boys easily.
Barry noticed that two of the beds in the dormitory were empty, they were Peter and John's beds. Corey was still sleeping in his and Alec was sitting in his bed looking around as well. He caught Barry's eye indicated they should get dressed in their school uniforms.
After they had finished getting dressed in their school uniforms, Barry felt he should wake Corey up, but he was already up. “Thanks though,” he said as he sat up in his bed. “I'll catch up with you guy as soon as I finish getting dressed.”
“Okay,” Barry and Alec said as they grabbed their school bags and headed out of the dormitory.
They were about to exit the portrait hole when Corey came running up behind them. Corey was round-faced, with a short, chubby build and dark hair. Barry seemed to like Corey more than Peter and John.
“Shall we go down to breakfast?” he asked after they stepped out of the portrait hole.
“Sure,” they both said. So they made their way down to the Great Hall.
They found Ginny sitting with two girls. The one on her right had blonde hair, grey eyes, and faint eyebrows. She looked as though she was dreamily distracted. The one on Ginny's left had bushy brown hair, and brown eyes. Barry, Alec and Corey all sat down across from them.
“Barry, Alec this is Alice,” Ginny said gesturing to girl to her right, “and this Adriana,” she gestured to the girl on her left. “Alice, Adriana, this is my twin brother Alec and best friend Barry.” she gestured to Barry and Alec.
“Hi,” both Barry and Alec said. “This is Corey our room mate,”
After the brief introductions, everyone started to eat breakfast. Soon they were joined by Sam and Tim, but they quickly left.
“I wonder when we get our class schedule,” Adriana said as she finished breakfast.
“That would be now,” a voice said from behind her. Barry looked up to see a tall, black haired witch, with emerald green robes, holding a piece of parchment in her hand. “I am Professor Watson, the Head of Ardesco and your Transfiguration Professor. And this is the first year schedule,” she said as she handed it to Adriana.
“Thank you Professor,” Adriana said as she started looking over it.
Professor Watson smiled at her and walked way. As soon as she had reached the staff table owls started swooping into the Great Hall delivering things to other students. Barry was still eating, so he didn’t notice the owl sitting in front of him.
“Barry you got a letter,” Alec said.
“Oh, thanks,” he said as he untied it from the owls leg and it flew away. He wasn’t really expecting a letter but he opened it and read it.
Barry, Alec and Ginny,
We are so proud of the three of you for making Ardesco, even though we knew that it was going to happen anyway. We all, your father, Lilly and Jack, Bill and Jeremy, are very proud of you all and expect the best from you all this year even Sam and Tim. Make sure to tell them that. And we cant wait to see you all during the holidays. You’ve only been gone two days and I already miss you all.
-Mum
Barry smiled and showed Alec and Ginny the letter and they read it. After they had read it Barry put it in his backpack and looked around the Great Hall. After Barry, Alec, Ginny, Corey, Alice and Adriana were finished with breakfast they headed to their first class which was Potions and was in the Dungeons. By the time they got there, there was already a line of students waiting outside of the class.
