"Zeera! Wake up, dammit!" I heard Daren yell at me.
My mind was hazy, but my body was completely shut down; all I could do was listen to everything happening around me.
Aside from the voices of Daren and our allies, I kept hearing chanting from low, monotone, zombie-like voices. They kept repeating the same phrase over and over, 'She's the one, she's the one. Bring her to master, bring her to master.' It was very creepy; their voices alone sent uneasy waves down my spine. Although what made me worry the most, was that the chanting voices sounded an awful lot like the voices of the poor children we found in the forest. I prayed to the gods that they weren't really working for the enemy, but deep inside, I knew not to get my hopes too high at all.
"Tonye, do something about Zeera!" Daren yelled once again. I was still unable to move my limbs, and my eyelids were tightly sealed shut. I began to panic on how I couldn't control my body at all.
"Got it, cover me!" A random voice replied, of whom I assumed was Tonye. Not even a few seconds later, I felt a hand touch my stomach and soon a pleasant, warm wave of energy flow through my body from its contact.
I immediately felt myself regain feeling in my arms and legs, I could finally open my eyes again. After a few blinks to get back into focus, I was met with the same familiar curly brown-haired boy from earlier; as well as the fighting going on between my group and the children.
"Can you stand?" Tonye asked, crouched besides me. By this time, my entire being seemed to be normal again, so I nodded and sat up.
I looked around in sadness as the fight continued viciously against the children, but also in horror that the children seemed to be fighting back. Skillfully by the looks of it, too.
"What... What's happening? Why-how-why are the kids fighting us? And how are they so good?" I asked him, not taking my eyes off a little boy going hand-in-hand with Daren. Their fighting skills seemed to be strangely on equal terms-until Daren caught him off guard and pinned him to the ground.
"Have you not heard of shells? Their basically puppets used by Tariku to do his dirty work. He's kidnapped innocent children and stripped them of their souls, then used their bodies to make an army of slaves. That bastard is the lowest kind of demon alive." He replied, then took off into battle to help a struggling girl on our team out. I sat there in shock as I took in the words I've been told.
Chapter 12
Tariku? Tariku did this? The guy who wanted to be friends with the Pures? This is what he became after what happened to him? I felt bad for him before, but to kidnap children and strip their souls from their bodies just to use them as pawns for your plans... That's inanumane. My entire body flooded with anger towards him, and in hurt and sorrow for the poor children whose lives ended sooner than ever expected.
"Zeera, get your ass up and fight! We need to subdue them, don't let any get away!" Daren demanded.
My head snapped up to the scene and immediately began scanning for an open opponent. These poor souls' bodies don't deserve what's happening to them, and I'll do everything in my well-being to bring them to peace.
I stood up as I felt my flames and jolts of energy flow within me, then powered up two paralysis daggers in each of my hands. Mind set, and eyes filled with determination, I targeted a girl coming at Daren from behind. I quickly ran over and kicked her back before she had the chance to lay a hand on Daren, and pinned her down, stabbing her in the chest with dagger.
