Chapter 18

The sound of footsteps echoed throughout the vast open area as the person behind the room walked closer. It was a woman. With hair in a gradient from grey to brown, and a tight body suit enchanted with demon spells. Although, she didn't have the aura of a demon at all; she was completely pure.

But it was her eyes that shocked me. The same amber eyes that belong to the brother of the most important person in my life. To stay sane, I denied my thoughts and proceeded with our plan.

"You must be an assassin from the academy." She said, her voice sharp and cold. And familiar. "It disgusts me how desperate the rulers of that school are to recruit children as young as you to fight. Allow me to put you out of your misery and join your peers."

She raised her hand, fingertips glowing a sickly green, and flicked it; releasing the trap door above and sending hundreds of children crying for battle down onto me.

I closed my eyes and inhaled, feeling the ground under me; feeling the entire forest around me. The rushing river with all its fish and creatures, the trees and bushes that swayed in the nightly wind. I raised my arms and poured my magic out into the world, asking silently for it's assistance in this battle.

I opened my eyes, my vision outlined in gold. I watched as the shells came closer and closer to me as I steadied my grip onto my spell. The ground shook, and I double checked to make sure the barriers were still around my comrades before I brought my arms down with as much force as possible, sending a rushing, massive, flood right into the cave.

All the shells were caught in its wave, but I had to control all the water to make sure none of the electronic devices would be corrupted. I made sure each and every shell was engulfed inside the liquid before compressing the body of water into a sphere. They were all struggling and writhing in pain as the water filled their lungs, but the pressure of carrying all the bodies and the water itself was putting an enormous strain on my mind and body.

"Hurry Daren! I can't keep this up much longer!" I screamed, my arms starting to shake and my legs beginning to buckle.

"Everyone! In position for mass spell casting!" Daren yelled.

I heard footsteps behind me before Daren and the others appeared on the sides of my vision. They all gathered in a ritual position in front of the trapped shells gathering their iko.

I fell to my knees as I felt the shells still fighting inside of the water, throwing spells at the rebound barrier surrounding them in attempt to break it. My entire body was aching from pressure, I felt as if my muscles were going to burst.

"Daren!" I shouted, praying he would hurry.

"Pilfered spell, on my mark!" He shouts, his body radiating a crimson red.

Each of our partners auras begin to shine as they powered up the mass spell. Water began to pour from the sphere as its shape began to deteriorate. The inside of my chest began to constrict as I found it hard to breath. My eyesight was fading in and out and my heart was pounding hard from the strain of my body.

"NOW!" Daren shouts. A beam of enormous light was shot directly towards the soulless children. Their screams shook the entire room; the horrid, raspy wailing of all the boys and girls whose lives were stolen from an okubi.

Then, the light and screams all faded within seconds as the world tilted before everything turned black.
