Chapter 16
A week has passed, and I've never worked this hard in my life. Meditating, field lessons, spell training, tests and so much more. It was all a bit overwhelming, but I was determined to get it right. I can't mess up, the world is on my shoulders. If I fail, I'll lose the ones I love. I can't mess up. On the bright side, I never saw Taabu that day. My mind was a little more at ease because of it.
Most of my training had to do with magic since it was my strong point, but this training was nothing I have ever seen before. I knew there were a large variety of spells, but there were literally spells on everything; weapons, clothing, house-building, you name it.
The downside is I have to limit myself to three tier five spells only. Any spells under tier five I can regenerate the energy back fairly quick, but over starts to put a strain on my body.
Today, Daren was taking me out in the forest again for a new lesson.
"So, Teach, what are we doing today?" I asked, my hands folded behind my head in a relaxed manner, but I was far from relaxed in the inside. I've been so happy that I've been making progress on my adroit training, I've barely kept still at all. To be honest, I was expecting things to be way harder after apprenticeship, but it was surprisingly easy once you get past the mind-breaking practice sessions.
"Have you played Predators and Prey in your apprenticeship?" He asked back.
"Yup, I've played it before. Is that what we're going to do?"
"Sort of, I gathered a few friends including Tonye to play along. Though, in this version, instead of the prey picking a place and hiding, they'll be constantly moving to get away. If you let them get past the river, they win. I'm taking you to the river right now so you'll know where it is." He explained.
Ah, I get it. Instead of Predators and Prey, it's more of a Cat Chase Mouse kind of game. Seems easy enough; if all I have to do to win is to stop them from escaping over the river, I'll just have to stay by the river and wait for them to come to me.
"Although, there's one catch for the predator." He said, as we both stopped at the calm river surrounded by beautiful flowers, lush grass, and silver water glimmering in the rays of the sunlight. Daren turned around to look at me with his fiendish smirk and that familiar sparkle in his eye.
"You can't move from your position to get them." My eyes widened as I looked at him like he was the craziest boy on Asalin.
"What do you mean?" I asked dumbly.
"I mean, once you set a position you're gonna attack from, you can't move from that position for the rest of the game."
Then, Tonye and three others jumped out from the trees behind me and stood next to Daren. Two boys, and one girl.
"So, there's Amina, Erik, and Mani. Amina's cool for the most part. Just don't piss her off-then she's a pain in the ass."
"Ha-ha jackass, very funny." She replied with a role of her eyes. Though, she still smiled at his remark.
She has this air around her that oozes confidence and kindness. And she's pretty. I wish I could be half as cool as her.
"Erik is kinda hyper, but we tolerate him anyway. He's a heck of a fast fighter though, the best on stealth missions."
"Hi! Nice to meet you!" Mani said, smiling widely.
I smiled back, a bit nervous. "Nice to meet you too."
