Chapter Two: First Day
Lucy woke up with her heart pumping furiously in her chest. Holy crap! I forgot to set my alarm! Grabbing her watch from the side table, Lucy sees that she luckily woke up around the time she should have. She lets out a breath of relief, "Thank goodness..."
Deciding that she would much rather be early on her first day than risk being late, Lucy jumps in the shower and gets ready in record time. Skipping down the staircase in a pair of shorts and acrop top, she remembers the sounds coming from the basement last night. She pauses at the bottom, her eyes glues to the door. There are no screeching sounds now, not even a whisper.
The door is ordinary; just a simple white with a crass handle. It looks like there would be another bedroom on the other side of it.
I guess Jude got those possums. I don't remember waking up again after I went back to bed. Pushing her curiosity aside, Lucy ducks into the kitchen to grab an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter. Slinging her backpack higher on her shoulder, Lucy heads out without a farewell to Jude, wherever he might be. When she had enrolled in Fairy Tail Academy, Lucy had realised that it was only a fifteen minute walk from her fathers mansion.
Munching on her apple as she walks silently towards her new school, her nerves raise the short hairs on her arms. The footpath is hard beneath her heavy steps, and the breeze blows her blonde locks around her shoulders. When Lucy starts to notice school students pass her in cars and on skateboards, she knows that she is close to the academy. A few minutes later, Lucy is surrounded by noise.
Students run around, stand under trees and lean against cars. They all talk amongst themselves, occasionally laughing and throwing punches at one another. When Lucy enters the school yard, she expects everyone to turn and stare at her when they realise that she is a new student, but no one notices her. But in the movies... Lucy shrugs her shoulders, unfazed by the lack of attention. I guess I actually like it better this way.
Remembering the way to the school admin where she enrolled, she makes her way there. She passes a few students lingering in the halls.
"Hey, are you new here?" Lucy turns to the sound of an authoritative feminine voice. Expecting to find a teacher, Lucy is surprised when she finds a scarlet haired girl her age. Her brilliant red hair is long, down the centre of her back. Her eyes are dark, with a bold strictness.
Lucy gawks for a second, stunned by the girls dominant aura. Lucy already knows that this red-head is a tough cookie. "Uh, yes?" Lucy manages to stutter out, her eyes bulging and her palms sweating. What if this girl is a vicious bully? Is she going to pick on me, because I'm new? That's always how it happens in books—
The red head smiles. Lucy is now completely petrified. "What is your name, new girl?" Red asks, her eyes glistening. Lucy gulps loudly, "Um... uh, L-Lucy Heartf-filla."
"Well, Lucy," Red starts. This is it. She's going to try and take my lunch money. "Do you play volleyball?"
Lucy pauses.
Wait... What?
Red waits expectantly, her eyes wide and her smile creepily wider. Her white teeth gleam like a sharks. Lucy once again finds herself stuttering, unsure what to make of Red's question. It hadn't been what she was expecting.
