Chapter Twelve: The Moment

Natsu's eyes bleed heavy tears as they stay trained on Luce. Her body heaves as she struggles to breathe through the skin splitting pain across her entire body. She small cries fall on his ears like a constant torture. Somewhere, like an animalistic instinct crying out, he knows he needs to feed her his blood. He knows it will help her. It helped heal his bite marks before.

Jude lifts Natsu's head from the ground and smashes it back down, the cement grinding into his skin painfully. But Natsu doesn't even recognize the pain - his entire attention remains on Lucy.

"Stop... hurting... him..."

Natsu's eyebrows raise with surprise, his heart hammering in his chest. Hearing her voice seemed to quell something in his chest. His urgency to reach her grew tenfold, as strength and heat coursed through him. Jude curses as his hands burn from the heat, and he quickly recoils. Glancing over at Lucy's broken and crumpled body, he knows he has to get rid of her if he wants to regain his control over Natsu.

"That damn bitch..." he mutters and he stalks over to her. Her eyes are barely cracked open, his vision mostly thick black spots dancing in front of her. Jude picks her up by the wrist of her unshattered hand and drags her towards the stairs again.

"Luce..." Natsu calls for her, his strength renewed as he tries to pull at his chains. He leans forward as far as he can, pulling with all his energy. But due to the strain from the cuffs, he snaps both his wrists against the metal. He grunts past his agony and tries to keep pulling.

"Don't... give up... Natsu..." He looks up to see her lips pulled up in a barely there smile as she looks over at him through her squinting eyes.

"Shut up! You have ruined enough for me!" Jude shouts, swapping arms to grab her broken hand. She screams out in pain, surprised that she has enough air in her lungs to do so. Natsu growls a loud, dangerous, death-promising growl. His wrists, having almost healed already, snap again at the strain to pull the cuffs away. Jude pulls Lucy up the stairs, and once she is out of sight, Natsu goes mad.

Switching to another tactic, he starts to bang his cuffs on the cement floor to try and split them. He brings the chains between his teeth to try and bite through them. He tries anything to get to Lucy.

Lucy continues to scream and writhe in pain, as her broken fingers are held together in a vice-like grip. Jude switches back to her other wrist as he carries her towards the back door. Lucy only cries now, as she cradles her broken hand to her chest weakly. Blood continues to mark their trail as she is dragged across the floor. Her entire body is numb from the pain and blood loss, but yet in her mind, all she can think about is Natsu.

Please... Get out of there... Natsu...

"You've ruined everything. Fourteen years, I've spent trying to break that boy dragon, and now you show up and unleash the damn thing! Do you know how hard it is for a single hunter to take on an angry dragon? Count your damn blessings that it's not as bad as it could have been - if he knew how to use it, then there would be trouble."

Lucy can barely hear anything, the sound of her blood racing around her head continues to dwarf any other noise around her.

"If some animal doesn't smell your blood and finish you off, I'll be back to do it myself," Jude mutters as he continues to drag her into the forest behind their house. Dropping her arm, Jude leaves her body in the woods when he feels he has traveled far enough inside.

A couple of minutes pass and Lucy begins to wonder if she is going to die. A rock stabs uncomfortably into her spine, and a group of stick pinches the skin of her legs. Already, flies are beginning to hover around her bloodied body. Opening her eyes as much as she can, she stares up at the blue sky, wondering if this will be the last thing that she sees.

"Holy shit!" She hears someone curse. The voice sounds muffled and far away, but she also could blame that on the blood loss. Suddenly, she feels hands on her arms, and the sick feeling of wrongness sweeps through her body.

"Shit, Lucy! Holy shit, what happened to you?" Sting's face comes into her line of vision, and she suddenly feels safe. Like he is someone who will help her. His face is contorted in pain and horror as he assesses her, his eyes taking in her mangled fingers, her bruised face and her bloodied head.

His eyes gloss over as he fumbles to get his phone from his pocket. Lucy struggles to breathe, the air becoming painfully louder and harder to draw. Sting notices instantly, his eyebrows furrowing with concern as he brings the phone to his ear.

"Shit Rogue, what took you so long to answer? It doesn't matter, something has happened to Lucy! I'm bringing her home for mom to look at her... I know, but she might die... Yes, it's that bad! Just get here and help me, please!" String quickly hangs up the phone, releasing a shaky breath.

"Lucy, can you hear me? What happened?"

Lucy can't tell whether her eyes keep closing, or whether her vision is simply shutting off, but every few seconds, the blue sky turns black, and she feels herself being swallowed. The pain slowly starts to fade, and she welcomes it.

"No no no! Don't you close your eyes, Lucy! Whoever claimed you, you'll be leaving them alone! Just keep looking at me." Sting brings her head forward gently, trying to focus her eyes.

And once more, Lucy's mind is filled with images of the pink haired boy who calls her Luce.

"Rogue, help me!" Sting calls when Rogue finally comes into sight.

"Help... Natsu..." Lucy whispers, her throat charred. Sting and Rogue both freeze at her words, their eyes wide with disbelief.

"Did she just..." Rogue starts, his eyes mad and horrified. He had wanted to claim her. And how someone had tried to kill her before he could. But hearing his long-lost cousin's name had definitely startled him more than her beaten and broken appearance.

"Lucy, what did you just say?" Sting asks, pressing his ear as close to her lips as he can, to make sure that he hears her correctly. His body is shaking and his eyes are wide and sheeny.

"Please..." her voice breaks, as more tears spill from the corners, "Help... Natsu... get out of there..."

Sting pulls back like she has slapped him, starting at her with doubt. She can't be talking about the same Natsu... But she nods her head gently, confirming it.

But not willing to take the chance of her being wrong, Sting barks at Rogue to take Lucy back to their Uncles house. Rogue takes Lucy into his arms gently, his nerves grating on the disgusting feel of wrongness that rakes through his body, meaning she has been claimed. No, she was mine to claim.

Shakily bringing his phone to his ear once more, Sting wipes his eyes as small, cold tears fall from the corners. On the fourth ring, his Uncle answers.

"Uncle Igneel... I think I know where Natsu is..."
