Chapter Eight: Watching

Lucy is glad that none of her friends question her scarf. They all seem pretty concerned about her health though.

"Are you sure you don't want to go to the nurse's office? You're looking rather pale..." Levy mutters in concern. Her eyes are worried, her forehead creased by her troubled frown. Lucy shakes her head, endeared by her friends consideration, "I'll be fine." Lucy's voice is croaky, but clear enough for Levy to understand. Levy nods in acknowledgement, but continues to monitor Lucy closely.

The rest of the day goes smoothly. Lucy's throat ached so much, she couldn't eat anything at lunch. Sitting in her study period, she cautiously glances around for the two boys that had approached her yesterday, but she doesn't see them. She breathes a heavily sigh of relief, before lowering her head. As she is trying to study, her mind continues to drift to the boy in her father's basement.

I need to bond with him, before he can trust me. Who knows what my father has done too him... "Or how long he's been down there..."

"How long who's been down where?"

Lucy head turns sharply at the sound of a new voice. She is sitting in a rather secluded place in the library, so she can thought she was alone. Her eyes land on the boy with black hair from yesterday. His intimidating aura immediately unsettles her.

His dark reddish eyes bore down into Lucy's, her form seizing. A strange feeling colonizes within Lucy's body, causing her chest to beat faster out of fright. Her body feels paralyzed, her mouth unable to part and her eyes locked on the boy taking the seat beside her.

He doesn't seem fazed by her silence. He seems to like it. Rogue. Now sitting next to her, Rogue studies Lucy carefully. He strokes her cheek gently, causing Goosebumps to rise on Lucy's arms. She is confused as to why she can't move away from him. She can't move any part of her body at all. Her eyes are wide with bewilderment, as she tries to curl her fingers. But her body feels like it is filled with lead, and welded in place.

Rogue says nothing as he frowns at her scarf, his eyes darkening. Reaching forward, Lucy tries to flinch away from his advance, but her body is paralyzed. She doesn't remember how to move. Her eyes water as his hand pulls her scarf away from her neck, revealing the dark circle around her throat. His eyes narrow further, his head tilting to the side like a curious cat. He doesn't say anything.
