Chapter 1

As I wake up feeling groggy on a Monday morning, I brushed my teeth, washed my body, and combed my hair. Opening my dresser, I picked a white top, black leather jacket and my jeans. Inside my bathroom, I found my dark blue Converse sneakers and wore them. My backpack hung from the hook at my door. As I took it from the hook, it’s very heavy as it looks since I’ve been doing a lot of homeworks last night. I also did an advance study in case of a pop quiz or a surprise practical test.

The aroma from the kitchen made my mouth water. No one’s around. Mom’s not around. She’s probably at the dance studio now. She already made my breakfast. I found it on the table, but it was covered by another plate on top of it. As I opened it, I found bacon and eggs. My favorite breakfast! Just I was about to open the refrigerator to get some milk, there’s a sticky note posted. It’s quite long for a sticky note. It read:

        Sweetie,

Sorry I left early. The clubhouse needs me because they’re

practicing  for a dancing contest this upcoming Friday. They

want me to train them. I cooked your favorite breakfast on the table.

Be sure to finish it up! I still don’t know what time I will be back.

                                                                                                         ~Mom

I chuckled a little bit after reading the note and got the fresh milk out the refrigerator. My mug is already on the table, and I filled it half. I sat down and ate my breakfast quietly. The bacon tastes surprisingly delicious. It’s like it came straight from a fast food. The fried eggs’ egg yolk was broken, and I hate it. I feel like the food isn’t done perfectly since Mom also doesn’t do well in cooking. Surprisingly, she did better in doing the bacons. I gotta give her two thumbs up for that.

Before I left the house, I checked every unclosed windows, other holes or leakages around the house, and locked the door. Good thing, my mom gave me spare keys for the house. Our garage door was opened, and someone took the car. Then I was assured that Mom already left.

The weather today’s quite cold since it’s autumn, but humid. This gives me a sick feeling. I really hate humid times. It makes me unable to breathe the normal way. Talk about perfect timing, I already caught up with the bus. The bus is almost filled with familiar students. Some were just ordinary businessmen who take the bus daily and of course, some businesswomen also. Sometimes, I’ve even pictured in my mind that my mom wearing those uniforms. Well, it doesn’t suit her. For me, she’s fine just the way she is now. Although she wants to get the kinds of jobs business people get, she can’t because she’s not a serious type of person.

“Good morning cutie!” says the bus driver, probably in his near twenties.

I just gave a slight nod and a crooked smile and find a place to sit. There’s an empty space beside an old man so I decided to sit beside him since I didn’t have any choice. My seat was near the window. I quickly placed my backpack on top of my lap. The seat is quite comfy so I slouched freely on the seat. We waited for more passengers which I find very ridiculous. Can’t they see that this bus is crowded with sea of people? Probably, the bus driver just wants their money.
