Chapter 12

We lost track of time. It’s already twelve midnight. Tonight was really special. The surroundings were quiet before us as if Kent silenced them. Did he? Oh well, I don’t care as long as he’s with me, everything will be fine. He drove me to my house and said good night to me. In my room, I changed into my tank top and short shorts and went to bed. Closing all the lights except my night light, I looked out the window. The moon seemed so brighter now or I just hadn’t paid any attention to it until now. Sleeping was out of my thoughts right now. I can’t sleep after what had happened to us. Tonight, I had my first kiss with the one I loved and will love forever.

A branch of a tree tapped my window because of the strong wind. It’s almost winter anyway. Autumn is going bye-bye any of the days now. I hate the idea of it. Got to think of it, I hadn’t jump on our fallen autumn leaves this year. Zach and I used to that. The old Zach used to do that with me. I wonder what’s he doing at the moment. Is he making a plan to take revenge on Kent?

Hard knocks were heard on my door. I was shocked and a little scared. I got my pocket knife from my drawer and went down the stairs quietly as the hard knocks were still tapping. Before I opened the door, I took a deep breath. I opened the door and found…Keri. How did she find me here? What is she doing here? My whole body was shivering but I didn’t show it to her. She would sense that I thought wrong of her. I also hid my pocket knife at my back.

“How did you know this is where I live?” I asked her, direct to the point.

“I followed you,” she said. “May I come in?” There, I saw it. She was holding a knife. One second my world is okay, and now it’s going to be ripped apart by a girl I barely know.

“Please drop the knife down,” I said carefully, backing away from her.

“After it touches you,” she ran forward to me as I darted through the kitchen but I was no faster than her because she caught the hem of my tank, pinning me on the wall. She almost stabbed me in the face but I dodged it. She swore a few words as I punched her in her face and backed away from her. My hand that held the pocket knife was numb that it hurts. My wrist hurts again.

“What do you want from me?” I yelled.

“Your hot boyfriend. He should be mine, not yours!” she yelled back.

“What the heck! You came here to kill me because Kent’s not with you. How ridiculous can you get!” I said unconsciously to her. “Well, you can’t have him. We belong together!”

“That just makes me even madder,” she threw the knife to my direction. I dodged it but it had cut my right arm. Great, there goes my skin for prom. This is the perfect time to use my pocket knife so I came close to her with my pocket knife in my hands.

“This is for ruining my arm!” I made a cut on her arm too that made her shriek out loud. I backed away and tried to shove her away but she was way stronger and taller than me. I was caught off guard when she took the pocket knife from me so swiftly as if it was the wind who blew it away from my hand. She wrapped her hand around my neck, choking me to the wall. It was hard to take deep breaths. Her grip was getting tighter and tighter. I was running out of air. My vision was blurry.

“Hmm…where should I start?” she asked sarcastically. “Oh, how about your face? Then that would make your boyfriend stay away from you!”

    “You—won’t get—away with—this,” I said between breaths.

“Let’s just see!” her knife made a small cut in my cheek that made me grunt. It was going lower when she stopped because of a loud bang of my door. She lowered me down and threw the pocket knife to me. My vision was blurry and I can’t see clearly. But one thing’s for sure, the person was trying to teach Keri a lesson. I let my eyes rest and everything went perfectly blank.
