Chapter 3

The next thing I know I slept beside Mom on the couch the whole night. I didn’t get to change into my pajamas last night. The television is turned off; I guessed my mom found out that I was sleeping in the middle of her favorite romantic show. Our digital clock on the coffee table beeped three o’ clock in the morning. I rubbed my eyes and carefully slithered my way out of Mom’s embrace around me. I got a blanket and put it over her body.

I did the daily morning routine. I brushed my teeth, took a very quick shower since it’s a little cold, combed my hair, and took a bath robe. It’s still early, maybe it’s still around four already. In my computer table, I reached out for my cellphone if I got any text messages and missed calls. Twenty missed calls and three new messages. I just realized I promised to call Bree when I was in the hospital. It’s because of the shock last night; I wasn’t able to call her. She must be furious right now. I opened the twenty missed calls and yeah, I was right. It was all her. Then, I opened the three new messages. Two came from Bree. Unexpectedly, the other one was from Kent. I didn’t remember registering his number in my cellphone maybe it was Bree because I recalled one time she borrowed it. And what I really don’t get is how in the earth he had my cellphone number. I opened his message for me.

               Hey,

Dis is Kent. Mayb u’re wnderng how I got

ur cell # ryt? I’ll tell u tom!!! Sweet dreams <3

“Oh you’re really goin’ to explain it everything to me, punk!” I muttered. Then, I checked Bree’s messages. “Man, she really bugged me!” I said, rubbing my eyes. Message number one:

Yo! Carther! Y aren’t u calling me? Smthng hppnd ryt?

Tell me! Tell me!!! Tell me! I’m goin’ 2 do dis d whole nyt if u don’t reply 2 me dis

                         instant. Tell me!!!

Her message number two for me is full of “Tell Me” She stopped in her forty-seventh “Tell Me” It was around 12:37am. I gave a heavy sigh. I lie down on my bed thinking of my mom when she won’t be around here anymore. Usually girls around my age leaped for joy when they have this opportunity but I’m not one of them. Suddenly, my cellphone beeped a message tone. When I opened it, it was from Kent! It read:

Hey sunshine, good morning! I hav smthng 2 show

                       u l8er! See u! I’ll be at ur locker! 

I snapped my cellphone shut and wonder what he’s going to show me. I looked at my sparkly pink Hello Kitty watch; the time’s flying so fast that it’s already ten minutes past five but still, it wasn’t the time I was hoping for. I went down the stairs, went to the kitchen and fixed both of us our breakfasts. Hotdogs, bacons, and pancakes were placed on the table. The luscious aroma spread the entire room that it woke Mom up.

“Wow, so early to make breakfast for me?” she said happily but groggily.

“It’s not only for you Mom,” I joked.

She laughs. She scrambled up to her room which is also in the same floor as mine but she’s in the other end of my room. We can say that our rooms are located in both ends of the floor. After I cleaned up my mess, Mom was already dressed in her dancing outfit, fuchsia pink sleeveless shirt and her herring pants and rubber shoes.
