"That mother-fucker actually tried to kill me," the boss non-humorously cackled whilst swirling the glass of gin in his hand. "Thank god there was only one bullet in there, otherwise I'd be just as screwed as you two." Even though both of the girls had calmed down since the disturbing event that had taken place prior, they were both still shaken to the core.
"I don't know if I can take much more of this," A small voice spoke up. Lauren turned her head to see Camila shaking. "Kill us already. We're just waiting for the inevitable here."
"Wow. Giving up already? Damn Lauren, I thought your girlfriend had more fight in her than that. That's pathetic."
"You're the only pathetic one in this room. You're a vulgar man and the biggest regret of my life was taking your orders. I was a fool." Lauren spoke defensively.
"No shit Sherlock. Obviously it was the biggest regret of your life because you're now sat here inches away from death." The short man shook his head in disbelief and then muttered something, inaudibly, under his breath. "I'm going to get a drink." With that, the boss exited the room, leaving Lauren and Camila alone.
"I don't want to die." Camila whispered.
Lauren pouted sympathetically at her girlfriend, but didn't say anything. Lauren didn't know what she could possibly say in this moment to make her girlfriend less terrified of what was bound to come.
"I always thought I'd graduate from college and get my degree. I wanted to make it, Lauren. I wanted to do good to others." Camila sobbed gently, which broke Lauren's heart.
"You have done good, Camila. In the short time I've known you, I've noticed that you put everyone else before yourself. That's a brave thing to do. Even when times got hard, you never stopped caring about others. You would have been such a good doctor." Camila glanced up at Lauren, through glassy eyes, and gave her the best smile she could.
Suddenly regret hit Lauren like a train on a track. "I'm so sorry, Camila."
"Why are you sorry Lauren?" Camila asked but Lauren couldn't understand her girlfriend's confusion. In Lauren eyes, she had completely destroyed any chance of Camila having a future.
"You know why I'm sorry, Camila. I've ruined your life."
Camila's furrowed brow slowly turned into a sweet smile.
"Lauren, you are the best thing that has happened to me. You have completed my life, not ruined it." Lauren's heart swelled in her chest.
"B-but you could've been-"
"Don't focus on what I could've been or could've done, focus on what I did do...with you. I have never felt love in my life until you came along. My parents cast me aside the day I was born, they've never needed me, only once in my entire life," Camila suddenly froze. "Needed me once in my entire life."

Flashback"Honey, could you come in here for a minute, please?" Sinu called out to her daughter, who had been playing with the chicken in the yard.
"Okay mama, I just need to finish styling Mongo's hair, he is trying to impress Lucy." The younger girl replied.
"No Karla, here now please. Your father and I would like to talk to you." Her mother replied. Camila let out a sigh and dragged her feet back to the house.
When Camila had arrived back inside the house, she saw her mother and father sitting in the lounge.
"Come here, honey." Her mother patted down a space on the opposite couch.
