Yuuri stared out at the ocean and after a moment angrily wiped his eyes.
Rebel never loved him, his little part of life he shared with Yuuri was over, done, written in stone and then broken and he was totally fine with it. So why was he still angry?
Would it always be this way?
More tears trickled down his cheek and he swatted them away.
It damn sure felt like it right now.
He let out a shaky sigh and dug his fingers into the sand, raising a handful before letting it sprinkle back into the ground.
Maybe he could just stay here for the next two weeks, wait for everything to pass and then come back.
Then again, his mother would probably have the whole kingdom looking for him the first full day he was missing.
But the thought was nice.
Maybe he'd just sneak out as much as possible and try and spend more time with little family out here. He hadn't seen them since the day he had stolen the pig.
In truth? The children thought the pig was adorable and some had started crying when they realized he was in the butcher's care. Which is how he really ended up with Waddles.
A sigh slipped from his lips and his eyes were drawn back to the ocean and it's smooth constant 'swoosh' sound.
It strangely reminded him of Victor. It was nice and calming just like the man himself but had the right bit of humor and teasing when the waves dared to try and reach him. The constant reassuring noise reminded him that the guard was always by his side.
Well most of the time anyways.
It was nice though, when he was that is. One word he'd use to describe it as was 'warm'. Every time he was around Victor he got that campfire feeling. Y'know, the one you get when you were surrounded by people you love by a campfire roasting marshmallows on a cold night but were rather toasty huddling together around the fire telling jokes and wild stories.
That's what Victor made him think of.
The soft crackling of the fire, the crunch of leaves underfoot, the sweetness of the marshmallows.
And he loved it.
Hell, he'd say he was even addicted to it if anything.
His mind was drug back to reality as he heard the crunch of sand lead up beside him and the sound of heavy panting.
He looked up, not very much because he was bent over with his hands on his knees and out of breath, but there stood the person he'd been thinking of.
He didn't say anything, and neither did Victor. He stood there like he was for a good minute or two before he sat down beside Yuuri.
His eyes were drawn back to the ocean.
They sat in a comfortable silence, neither of them daring to break it.
But eventually, Victor's arms enveloped him in a side hug.
"You don't know how long I just spent looking for you."
He nodded but couldn't bring himself to smile, instead he hugged his friend backs, hoping with all his being that the tears in his eyes didn't fall onto his friend's newly found shirt.
"Do you want to tell me what's wrong?"
The tears slipped down and dampened the material at this.
He pulled himself away from Victor, quickly wiping them away before speaking again "Rebel is coming in a week."
"Why the hell..."
"Mother says it's for 'business' but who knows."
He laid down and shut his eyes.
"All I know is it's going to suck."
Victor sighed and he felt him move to lay next to him "I'll fight him for you."
He couldn't help but smile "I know, Vitya."
"I'll win, too."
"I'd never expect anything less."
