Chapter 27: The Timing

Alyssa jumped up and scissor kicked the leather punching bag, leaning over to catch her breath. "That was good, steady it for another one," she said, breathing heavily. Kai glanced over at Cole who was leaning against the wall and sighed, steadying the bag for Alyssa.

The door opened and Emma walked in, throwing her hands up in disbelief. "Okay! If she gets to train then why can't I?" she asked, stepping in front of her brother.

"Shouldn't you go sit in the sun?" Jay scoffed. Emma narrowed her eyes at him in a glare and slumped against the wall next to her brother. "I'm not fragile. I know what you say, you think I'm weak, I get it. Please, just tell me--"

"Emma, would you drop it?!" Cole snapped, rubbing his forehead. Alyssa and Kai stopped and looked at Cole as he caught his breath. "Why are you yelling at me?" she wondered, standing up.

"Because I want to protect you! I want you to be safe! You, Emma! You! Alyssa is fine! She is not injured or weak or-or just incapable! You are! You are the baby and it's my job to keep you out of it!" he added.

"That's how you see me? As... incapable?" she choked out, stepping towards the door. "Emma," he interrupted, leaning to her hand. "That was weeks ago," she whispered.

"What?" he asked.

"That was weeks ago! Weeks! I was stuck there for a year! A year! Do you understand that?! You left me there for a year! And I am not weak! I learned to survive without my brother and my family who thinks I am so weak! I'm sorry I got stuck there! I'm sorry..." she whispered the last part, slamming the door as she left.

"Emma!" Cole shouted, rushing after her. She walked faster, tears rushing down her face. Cole grabbed her wrist and she whipped around. "You keep telling me I''m not allowed to talk to mom and dad, or leave, or do anything... and I don't want to be stuck in this damn shop so I am going to tell them I am alive, and I will live there since I am not wanted here," she growled, yanking her hand back and walking away.

Emily slipped into the training room and looked at everyone's shocked faces, "She's going to tell her parents," she mumbled to the group. "That's okay though, right?" Lloyd asked.

"It is now, I have a better plan. And I know how to help, she can tell her parents," she smiled.
